The QA Manager, plans, coordinates, and directs the quality program that is designed to ensure quality control and quality assurance of the production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees. Must write and maintain quality standards and procedures that eliminate pipe failure in the field. Must explain specific quality problems to production management and request changes required to upgrade product quality. As a CWI, supports the QA department demands across the facility by reviewing products at various stages of the production process to maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the duties detailed below. Daily functions are focused on inspecting fittings at various stages of fabrication and monitoring fabrication processes for conformance to general company and specific project requirements. The focus of this position will be redirected on demand as required to meet production needs at ASWP facilities.

  • Formulates and maintains quality objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
  • Interprets quality philosophy to key personnel in organization.
  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Provides technical training to department staff, as required for satisfactory job performance.
  • Writes and/or approves procedures for Quality Assurance department jobs.
  • Plans and oversees the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component.
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
  • Reviews MTR's for incoming materials; verifies metallurgy, steel grade, and dimensions; Decides whether to accept a product or continue business with a vendor based on engineering review.
  • Reviews all data obtained during all quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality activities.
  • Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and actions being taken to improve the situation. Educates various parties on standards, manufacturing and testing capabilities and helps solve technical problems and differences that arise during any stage of the process.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
  • Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products. Ensure that quality standards are being maintained and updated and that our products meet specification requirements.
  • Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality.
  • Performs other tasks as requested by management.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, specifications, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Verifies aspects of the fabrication process for fittings, including but not limited to dimensional acceptability of fit, including conformance to WPS; welder compliance to WPS(s); welding process and finished weld size; finished dimensional compliance, including FTcl; lining/coating repair; correctness of fabrication travelers.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance or mechanical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Enters data into computer for analysis.
  • Observes in-process operations to determine and ensure that correct procedures are being used and followed, and correct materials are being used; ensures compliance with ASWP standard operating procedures and customer specifications for manufacturing, such as preheating pipe, hydrostatic testing, roundness verification; reports issues to management.
  • Performs visual inspection of finished goods to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Reviews welders for level of competency on the job they are doing.
  • Follows procedures to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs regular calibration and preventive maintenance on ultrasound or other QA testing equipment to conform to legal and manufacturing requirements.
  • Observes welding processes during operation and spot checks welding machine settings and procedures.
  • Performs non-destructive testing on welded parts, using VT, MT, PT or UT, and leak testing using AT.
  • Observes and checks hydrostatic test machine after setting up to ensure it is set up properly for use.
  • Observes hydrostatic testing to ensure that all procedures are followed.
  • Inspects raw materials upon receipt for acceptability and conformance to purchase requirements.
  • Performs other tasks as instructed by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Must have two to four years' related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be an AWS QC1 Certified Weld Inspector.
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Must be able to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, and distance.
  • Must be able to compute and accurately operate calculator.
  • Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to interpret and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Must have knowledge of Manufacturing Software, Project Management Software, Spreadsheet software and Word processing software.
  • Must be able to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or written instructions.
  • Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  • Must be able to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, Air Testing (AT), Hydrostatic Testing (HT), etc.
  • Must be able to effectively direct and lead employees in the QA department.
  • Must be able to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, mission, vision, core values and applicable laws.
  • Must be able to interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; and address complaints and resolve problems.

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
