The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), a national leader in freight- and transportation-related research, seeks a GIS Research Analyst to join its growing team! This is a hybrid position located at ATRI’s HQ in Atlanta, Georgia, requiring in-office work Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with remote work on Fridays. Approximately 10% travel is required.
The GIS Research Analyst will support qualitative and quantitative research studies through geospatial data analyses using ATRI’s large truck GPS database, performing data analyses in ArcGIS Pro, and creating digital maps to clearly articulate results. The position will also support ATRI’s research portfolio through internet research, survey development, interactions with industry stakeholders, and by identifying, collecting and analyzing appropriate data and information.
The GIS Research Analyst will work on a small but experienced team of research professionals across the country. This role calls for independence, autonomy, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to shift gears to perform GIS analyses quickly and accurately as a result of significant weather and infrastructure events with the ability to articulate results of data analyses through written reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 1-2 years' experience in GIS research or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research.
- Ability to read and understand industry-related publications is a must.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels, are required.
- Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in GIS, with strong familiarity working with ArcGIS Pro. Additionally, a successful candidate will apply their creative problem-solving skills and critical thinking to a range of different research initiatives, bringing excellent technical writing abilities as well as mathematical proficiency to the table in this role. In addition, the ideal candidate will be proficient in data management using a programing language (e.g. R; Python; SQL; SAS).
