The American Trucking Associations (ATA) is seeking a talented and highly organized Manager, Communications (Manager) to join our Office of Public Affairs. This key position will support the day-to-day operations of the department while overseeing several e-newsletters, social media channels, web content, and other communications. The Manager will contribute significantly to content creation, message development, and both communications and media relations strategies.
The ideal candidate is a proven project manager, social media expert, and collaborator with strong written and oral communication skills. The Manager will work with various content management systems to maintain ATA’s websites and social media platforms, ensuring content is engaging, accurate, and up-to-date.
This position has no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Approximately 10% travel is required.
Key Responsibilities:

E-Newsletters & Media Content:
- Compile and send the ATA Daily Digest, a premium news aggregation e-newsletter, ensuring it reaches ATA members, industry insiders, and policymakers. Develop strategies to expand its audience and influence.
- Contribute to and format content for ATA Dispatch, ATA’s flagship weekly e-newsletter.
- Media Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor media (legacy, digital, and social) for mentions of ATA, the trucking industry, and relevant topics. Flag critical mentions in real-time and prepare response options. Produce media reports summarizing key mentions.
- Social Media Management: Draft engaging social media posts for platforms like X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Develop strategies based on social media algorithm trends and platform best practices.
- Press Releases & Content Distribution: Format and distribute press releases via Adestra. Post press releases to ATA’s website and update homepage and advocacy sections with fresh content.
- Media Relations: Maintain and manage targeted media distribution lists, ensuring accuracy and relevance. Respond to media inquiries as needed.
- Content Creation & Messaging: Support the development of talking points, blog posts, multimedia content, and other materials to support ATA’s advocacy efforts.
Expected Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs.
- BA/BS degree required, preferably in Communications, Political Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in strategic communications, media relations, or public affairs, with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience in drafting policy content is strongly preferred.
- Capitol Hill experience preferred.
- Trade association experience preferred.
Skill Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital communication tools.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and web content management systems.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle shifting priorities.
