Summary:
The Project Coordinator (PC) is a part-time student staff member of Housing & Residence Life and a member of the University’s Division of Student Affairs. The Project Coordinator is tasked with supporting the mission and efforts related to enhancing Belonging and Basic Needs Support of the residential student population. PCs fulfill a vital role in the promotion and sustainability of creating inclusive communities through Housing and Residence Life’s Affinity and Themed Community Housing which include Black Affinity Housing, Eagles in CommUNITY (LGTBQIA ), and FIRST Flight (First Generation).
The PC is supervised by the Community Director for Belonging and Basic Needs Support with the support from the Associate Director of Residence Life and is expected to work closely with other staff members within the building, as well as across campus.
Responsibilities:
1.) Community Engagement
Serve as the leader in developing and facilitating an environment on the floor and in the Residence hall in which students can grow and learn socially as well as academically.
Plan and implement learning and engagement opportunities for residents as part of the residential curriculum model, focusing on academic success, personal well-being, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Advise and refer their residents to campus resources to aid in supporting their academic, personal, and social well-being.
2.) Supporting Belonging and Basic Needs
Work with the Community Director for Belonging and Basic Needs Support and the Associate Director for Residence Life in the development, recruitment, and programmatic initiatives for Affinity Housing & Themed Communities focusing on supporting Black/African American, First Generation, and LGBTQIA students.
Assist in marketing, facilitating, and assessment of focus groups to gather student information related to interests in Themed Communities for AY 25-26.
Collaborate with the Community Director for Belonging and Basic Needs Support on researching and creating partnerships with external agencies within the DMV area aimed at fulfilling Basic Needs concerns.
Meet with the Community Director and/or Associate Director for Residence Life weekly (or bi-weekly) to engage in discussions related to continued progress towards goals and outcomes.
3.) Administration
Turn in completed HR and payroll forms to the Community Director and/or Associate Director Or submit appropriate HR paperwork via WorkDay.
Be timely and professional in all written and verbal communications with Housing & Residence Life staff and AU community members.
Compile accurate and timely reports for supervisors as requested.
Complete and submit bi-weekly online timesheets on time.
Treat information concerning staff and/or students with the utmost confidentiality.
4.) Communication
Maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Attend PC meetings to ensure deliverables are met within the associated deadline.
Maintain ongoing communication with the Community Director and/or Associate Director by checking staff mail , phone messages, and e-mail messages daily.
5.) Training
Project Coordinator are required to participate in scheduled training at the start of the fall and spring semesters.
6.) Outside Involvement/Employment
After academic commitments, the PC position will be the staff member’s priority. Housing & Residence Life, in consultation with the PC involved, reserves the right to limit time commitments that may interfere with their job performance. Outside commitments include other student leadership/organization positions, additional jobs, non-academic credit internships, etc.
Project Coordinator are permitted to maintain outside commitments with prior approval from your direct supervisor. Academic student internships are limited to three (3) credits per semester.
Prior approval is required for participating in other University Leadership positions (e.g., Orientation Coordinators/Leaders, Student Government, etc.).
PCs will submit in writing and discuss in detail with their supervisor their expected outside commitments prior to the academic year and throughout their employment.
7.) Other duties as assigned
The nature of the PC position does not allow for all duties to be explicitly described.
There will be times when staff are requested to assist in an emergency or other unforeseen circumstance. These situations will be presented as thoroughly as possible at the time of need.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-Time.
10 hours per week.
This position may require evening and weekend availability.
Non-Exempt.
Salary Range:
$17.50 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Full time enrollment as an undergraduate student (minimum 12 credits and a maximum of 17 per semester). If a Project Coordinator wishes to drop below the minimum credit hours, they must receive written permission from the Director of Residence Life in order to retain the PC position.
Complete one (1) semester of full-time undergraduate education by the start of employment.
One (1) semester living on campus.Transfer students who lived on campus before are welcome to apply.
Cumulative GPA at or above 2.5, and term GPA at or above 2.5 (GPAs must be maintained from the date of application until the date of separation).
Must not have been found responsible for violating a serious conduct policy, residence hall regulation, or University Policy (must be maintained from the date of application to the date of separation).
