Summary:
The Web Assistant supports the day-to-day communications and outreach activities for the School of Public Affairs with a focus on the school’s external website: https://www.american.edu/spa/. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic student who is looking to build their communications and web design portfolio, with no prior website experience required.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic website updates to keep the website fresh and engaging.
- Support efforts to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on the website.
- Support efforts to ensure that web pages and videos are digitally accessible and 508 compliant.
- Other tasks as needed to support the school’s communications channels (social media, email, screens, etc.)
- Part-Time.
- 15 hours per week.
- $17.50 per hour for Undergraduate students and $18.50 per hour for Graduate students.
- American University Federal Work Study student working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good writing skills.
- Good at working within a team.
- Ability to learn new skills, platforms, and technologies at a rapid pace.
- Microsoft Word & Excel or Google Docs equivalents.
- Familiarity with HTML and/or CSS.
- Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS).
- Previous experience working in digital communications or website development/design/management.
- Previous training in digital communications or website development/design/management.
- This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
