JOB SUMMARY

The Commercial Estimator projects and controls construction costs by collecting and studying information and performs complete, detailed material and labor take-offs for all commercial plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review the project, determine the scope of work to be completed and prepare a detailed cost estimate for all projects by using architectural drawings, specifications, and selection sheets
• Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time and raw material, equipment, and labor expenses
• Contact subcontractors and vendors to solicit competitive pricing and analyze quotes
• Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, architects, owners and contractors on estimates
• Prepare thorough take-offs and bid estimates
• Monitor variance between estimated costs and actual costs
• Evaluate a product’s cost effectiveness or profitability
• Provide general administrative support including routine processing of correspondence from rough or revised draft, data entry, preparation of miscellaneous reports, filling and copying

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Equivalent trade experience and knowledge, minimum 2-5 years estimating and field experience
• Knowledge of commercial construction and estimating processes. This includes reviewing, understanding, and performing take-offs on architectural plans; pricing/securing materials and building final job estimates

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Planning and scheduling skills
• Understanding of project forecasting and projections
• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Project
• Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy

The employee regularly works in a well-lighted, temperature controlled, and smoke-free environment. This job is performed with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
