2nd Shift Maintenance Technician
American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450 employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 2nd Shift Maintenance Technician role in our Marion, VA facility.
JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting machine setup, troubleshooting, repairing, and preventive maintenance service. Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
MAINTENANCE
- Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment and provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment/mobile equipment
- Perform mechanical work including, but not limited to, mechanical electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines
- Responsible for PM’s of all plant equipment
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
- Support the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Shift Supervisor with other initiatives ass assigned
- Organize and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment to minimize unscheduled downtime and to keep plant operating at maximum capacity
SAFETY AND ADMINISTRATION
- Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules
- Responsible for safety, cleanliness, and organization of maintenance department
- Communication with supervisor and other maintenance personnel
- Coordinate and administer company policies as they relate to the maintenance department
- Conduct tests and report items as they relate to the maintenance department
- Conduct tests and report items regarding insurance qualifications to met safety regulations and standards
- Establish personal goals and work with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamwork
- Attend monthly safety meetings
- Wear required PPE
- Attend trainings as needed and complete following testing with sufficient results
QUALITY
- Maintain and verify that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to supervisors, production employees, truck drivers, office personnel, and customers
- Assist in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed
OTHER
- Assist with cleaning up work area
- Weekend on-call on rotation with other maintenance employees
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma, G.E.D, and/or Technical Degree
- 5 Years of Industrial Maintenance Experience (Manufacturing) REQUIRED
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Highly motivated
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- PLC Programming and troubleshooting PREFERRED
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry weights in excess of 60lbs
- The ability to work in extreme temperatures and work environment
- The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly
- The ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, and squat for extended periods
- The ability to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds, as well as being comfortable working at various heights including the tallest structures in the facility, approximately 150’ high
- In a typical 8-hour shift, the employee can expect to spend about 50% of their time standing and walking to different areas in the plant, approximately 20% kneeling and the remainder of the time in various other positions, such as crouching and sitting
