3rd SHIFT SYSTEMS OPERATOR - Marion, VA
American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450 employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 1st Shift Systems Operator role in our Marion, VA facility.
JOB SUMMARY
A Systems Operator in a manufacturing or industrial environment is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of automated systems, equipment, and production processes. They work in a safe, efficient manner to maximize plant operations. Their role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial control systems to optimize efficiency and prevent downtime.
ESSENCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:
System Monitoring & Operation
- Oversee and control industrial automation systems, machinery, and production processes.
- Monitor system performance and make adjustments to maintain efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Identify and resolve system errors, malfunctions, or inefficiencies.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule repairs and prevent breakdowns.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Track system metrics, including production output, downtime.
- Generate reports on system performance and suggest improvements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all systems operate within safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Follow OSHA and industry-specific safety standards.
- Respond to emergency shutdowns and system alarms.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with ops manager to optimize operations.
- Communicate system status, issues, and maintenance schedules with management.
Process Optimization & Quality Control
- Suggest and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Ensure product quality meets manufacturing specifications.
Maintenance Knowledge:
- Preventive Maintenance: Regularly conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance tasks to prevent system failures, such as lubricating moving parts, replacing filters, and checking fluid levels.
- Corrective Maintenance: Troubleshoot and repair system faults, including electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues. Understanding wiring diagrams, control schematics, and mechanical components is essential.
- Equipment Calibration: Perform regular calibrations of sensors, gauges, and control systems to maintain accuracy and reliability in production processes.
- Knowledge of Industrial Tools & Equipment: Familiarity with tools such as multimeters,, and vibration analyzers for diagnosing and repairing system issues.
- Emergency Repairs: Quickly assess and resolve unexpected breakdowns to minimize production downtime. Knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies and rapid response strategies is crucial.
Personal Growth:
- Attends and participates in scheduled meeting of the plant. Be alert to those around you.
- Secondary duties: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Ability to read schematics and technical manuals
Basic computer knowledge in operating system Microsoft windows

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to lift, push, pull and carry 25/50/80 pounds regularly

The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds
The ability to work in extreme temperatures and work environment
