JOB DESCRIPTION:
The DON develops department goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures, and organizes the department in accordance with administrative guidelines. The DON functions in an advisory capacity to administration in evaluating proposed procedural changes as they relate to patient care. This position directs the implementation and ensures compliance with the Standard of Nursing Practice that promotes optimum health care delivery. This position will oversee the activities of infection control and staff education.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required
Credentials: Licensure by the Arizona Board of Nursing required.
Experience: Experience as a Registered Nurse in a substance abuse, co-occurring and medical treatment patients’/clients setting preferred; Minimum two (2) years’ experience in nursing management role preferred.
Additional Requirements: Thorough knowledge OSHA, JCAHO, and state and federal regulatory requirements. License in good standing, Healthcare Provider CPR, Fingerprint Clearance Card, Handle with Care and negative TB and annually thereafter within 90-days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Must be self-directed and willing to assume decision-making responsibilities.
- Must have working knowledge of aseptic techniques, prevention and control of communicable diseases, safe work practices and basics management skills.
- Must stay current with federal, state, and local healthcare standards, policies and procedures for workplace health and safety.
- Must have the ability to maintain working relationships with medical staff.
- Must have sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Must have good record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations.
- Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
- Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles.
- Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion.
- Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
- Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training, and annually thereafter.
- Must complete all required mandatory in-services annually.
- Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation upon hire and bi-annually thereafter.
- Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray if symptomatic.
- Must be certified in HWC training within the first three (3) months of hire and annually thereafter.
