What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chicago HOPES for Kids Summer 2025 Corps Member position at AmeriCorps?
At Chicago HOPES for Kids, we are committed to our children’s educational development and long-term empowerment through academic support, dedicated mentorship and basic needs services.With over a decade of service, we are the only organization in Chicago that provides educational and specialized support directly to children experiencing homelessness. We proudly serve over 325 students and their families annually and look forward to many more years of collaboration with our community! Our program consists of three major components: homework help, individual literacy support, and enrichment activities. Our curriculum is rooted in Social-Emotional Learning and Trauma-informed practices, allowing for a focus not just on individual academic needs, but providing a whole-child approach. Our programs are held 2-4 days a week for 2-3 hours at shelter sites and community spaces across Chicago. Programming runs on a semester basis year-round: Fall Programming begins in September and runs through mid-December. Winter/Spring programming begins in January and runs through the end of May. Summer programming begins June and runs through early August. All programs are coordinated out of our central office housed at 318 W. Adams St, Suite 600C, Chicago, IL 60606.
Member Duties : We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Corps member to join our team! The ideal candidate is passionate about education, youth development, and serving students from diverse backgrounds. Prior experience in tutoring is not required, but a plus. This role serves 35 hours per week, totaling 300 hours from June to August. Members are required to be present at program sites Mondays through Thursdays. They will be integral members of the program site's leadership team, with the on-site responsibilities of assisting students with homework and providing individualized literacy support, conducting reading assessments to monitor student progress, and planning and leading enrichment activities. Additional responsibilities include attending mandatory virtual meetings and service days. Beyond direct service, members will gain insight into the inner workings of a nonprofit organization, including workshop facilitation, field trip planning, curriculum development, and community outreach.
