The position reports to the Manager of FP&A as a part of the global Markel Food Group (MFG) team, supporting consolidations of the MFG three operating companies to be included in the Markel Group Inc.'s financial statement (a public company). In addition, this role supports AMF in consolidation, reporting, planning and financial analysis as it is the most significant operating company under MFG. We are seeking a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst candidate that has a strong understanding of financial consolidation principles, technical accounting knowledge and expertise in global financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver who thrives in a continuous improvement culture. This function acts as the analytical engine of MFG and AMF to provide insights and support optimal business decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting. Responsible for organizing the month-end closing process, supporting the Global Controllership team, along with preparing accurate and timely financial reporting to Markel Group. As part of the month end this role is instrumental in preparing the reporting and analysis necessary for the AMF Leadership team reviews and quarterly board meetings. The candidate will use Microsoft D365 as the consolidation system, ensuring proper integration of financial data from multiple entities and coordinating intercompany transactions, translations, and consolidation adjustments in compliance with US GAAP.

Financial Planning and Analysis. Provide in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, benchmarking, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business trends across global locations. Proactive monitoring, bring awareness to risks and opportunities to the Business Leadership Team to influence timely business decision making. Develop and maintain dashboards and tools for improved reporting and analysis. Collaborate with key business partners, especially global accounting teams, operations teams, and IT to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timing at which transactional and other key data becomes available for analytical use. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to senior management and business leaders as needed.

Required Knowledge / Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance, and MBA or CPA desired.
  • 2-3 years of experience in financial accounting, specifically Big 4 public accounting, with exposure to financial statement preparation, consolidations, audits, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and multi-currency consolidations..
  • Demonstrated sound analytical depth and strong technical capability with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills to be able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients and partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software tools (experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft D365 and Oracle a plus).
  • Exceptional organization skills and ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
