Position: Library Tech – Elementary
Reports to: Building Principal
Employment Status: Regular/Full-time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Description:
Responsible for student safety, management, and instruction while they are present in the library. Maintain responsibility for management and organization of the library resources.
NOTE:
The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
- Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
- Provide student supervision as needed
- Ensure the safety of students by following all directives of the District Safety Committee
- Ensure the safety of students by holding current knowledge of student health plans and basic related emergency protocols
- Monitor students in the Student Workroom
- Communicate with staff when students are in the Student Workroom
- Maintain a safe environment of students in the Student Workroom
- Promote Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) and PAX expectations
- Maintain compliance concerning confidential information (HIPAA)
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents, and community
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Establish and enforce rules and behavior expectations
Management and Teaching Behaviors:
- Remain current with constantly evolving technology
- Implement schedule of classes provided by building principal
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with and make modifications for special needs students
- Use library time effectively as learning time and engage students in productive activities during their time in the library
- Establish and maintain routines that support learning in the library and build upon learning routines from the classroom
- Create and implement library lessons that support and align with district/teacher/classroom curriculum
- Provide support and leadership to staff regarding school and district technology initiatives
- Demonstrate the ability to multi task
- Instruct students in basic library skills and procedures
- Provide assistance and support in instructional activities
- Assist school staff with questions, acquisitions, and in-service
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
Library Specific Tasks:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of author visits, literacy nights, Book Fairs, etc. as necessary
- Keep accurate records of overdue materials, lost and paid for items etc.
- Maintain proper order of media center collection
- Manage check in and check out of all library resources in circulation
- Prepare and maintain bulletin board displays
- Repair damaged library materials
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Evaluate the media collection for obsolete materials
- Complete annual physical inventory of materials
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot minor Chromebook issues
- Ability to submit tech requests as needed
- Proficient in Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail - Google certified preferred
- Ability to operate and maintain library equipment - including but not limited to student Chromebooks, iPads, iPad minis, digital cameras, LCD projectors etc.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn library science, software, and applications as needed
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school graduate
- Previous experience preferred
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
