Overview of Position:
The Neighborhood Business Development Coordinator will lead the "Building Economic Equity in Mayfair" pilot program. This innovative initiative is focused on lifting entire neighborhoods out of poverty by helping businesses owned by residents from low-income neighborhoods tap into the vast amount of business opportunities available within San Jose. The Neighborhood Business Development Coordinator will build relationships with local entrepreneurs from low income neighborhoods, create a community business directory, and provide the tools they need to sell their goods and services to nonprofits across San Jose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Connect with Local Entrepreneurs from Low Income Neighborhoods
- Build relationships with small business owners and entrepreneurs in East San José, focusing on those living in low-income communities.
- Create and maintain an online directory featuring at least 25 neighborhood businesses, complete with high-quality photos and engaging descriptions that tell their stories.
- Bridge the Gap to Bigger Opportunities
- Partner with local nonprofits to learn about their purchasing and billing processes, making it easier for local entrepreneurs to work with them.
- Create simple, easy-to-use tools like invoicing templates and checklists to help businesses navigate these processes.
- Help local entrepreneurs find and secure business opportunities with local nonprofits.
- Measuring Impact and Building the Future
- Track the program’s impact on business growth and income levels.
- Support additional projects as needed to help grow our economic empowerment work.
Education and Experience Requirements
- AA or BA is recommended
- Believe in our vision to lift entire neighborhoods out of poverty and be open to trying new ideas to make it happen.
- Have experience starting and scaling a business and/or have at least two years of experience helping small businesses secure contracts with corporations, nonprofits, or government agencies.
- Have experience working with entrepreneurs from low-income communities and are familiar with the challenges they may face.
- Enjoy writing about businesses in a way that makes them stand out and using photos to showcase their work.
- Fluent in Spanish and English required
