Position Summary

The Marine Technician Instructor role creates, delivers and monitors the success of the Marine Apprenticeship Program; develops curriculum, monitors completion rates; and ensures professional and successful relationships with participating employers and apprentices.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop and deliver marine technician training programs for apprentices, using different delivery methods,
  • Create training materials, including presentations, manuals, and exercises that will supplement the lesson plans and enhance the learning experience,
  • Use current information and technology in the marine industry and update as changes occur,
  • Establish and manage the training schedule and coordinate learning logistics (classroom or lab based),
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices in applying newly acquired skills and knowledge, in the classroom, lab and on-the-job training,
  • Monitor and evaluate apprentice performance and provide feedback and / or written action plans to improve learning outcomes,
  • Complete Assessments and enter results into the assessment portals,
  • Work with the Apprenticeship partners to make sure apprentices are completing the on-the-job training requirements,
  • Keep contact with the employer partners to provide instruction that links on-the-job training and address / reteach those areas that are not showing a level of mastery,
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to stay informed on technical changes and updates, and attend continuing education / certification training classes as needed to keep marine tech field certifications current,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

  • In-depth technical knowledge of the marine technician and service field, along with relevant certifications and qualifications including holding journey worker status in the marine field,
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, written and verbal
  • form,

  • Experience developing training materials (presentations, videos, manuals, and assessments) to support the learning process,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Intermediate Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, Entry Level Excel),
  • Passionate about teaching, inspiring, and engaging learners and experience adapting teaching techniques and materials to meet the needs of individual learners,
  • Have training in teaching techniques in adult learning style or willingness to obtain training within 80 days of hire,
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safety procedures with a minimum of current OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain within the identified timeline Staying up to date with the latest technological advancements and developments in the marine field to ensure relevant and effective delivery training.
