Job Title: Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources serves as a strategic leader in fostering a positive, equitable, and highly effective work environment for all district employees. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, this individual oversees all aspects of human capital management, including recruitment, employee relations, labor negotiations, benefits administration, compliance, and staff development. The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in ensuring that the district attracts, supports, and retains a high-quality and diverse workforce aligned with the district’s mission and goals.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Talent Acquisition & Retention:
· Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates for all district positions.
· Oversee the hiring process, including screening, interviews, reference checks, and onboarding.
· Collaborate with district leadership to assess staffing needs and develop long-term workforce planning initiatives.
Employee & Labor Relations:
· Serve as the district’s chief labor relations officer, fostering positive relationships with employee associations and unions.
· Address employee concerns, grievances, and complaints with professionalism and adherence to district policies and collective bargaining agreements.
· Lead contract negotiations, mediation efforts, and conflict resolution strategies to promote a collaborative work environment.
Compensation & Benefits Administration:
· Oversee salary structures, compensation plans, and employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
· Work closely with the business office to ensure competitive and fiscally responsible compensation models.
Performance Management & Professional Development:
· Design and implement performance evaluation systems that support employee growth and accountability.
· Develop and coordinate ongoing professional development opportunities for all staff, with a focus on leadership, compliance, diversity, and workplace safety.
Compliance & Legal Oversight:
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
· Stay current on legislative changes and labor regulations, advising district leadership on their impact.
· Oversee workplace investigations related to discrimination, harassment, and other personnel matters.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
· Analyze key HR metrics such as turnover rates, staffing levels, and workforce demographics to support data-driven decision-making.
· Prepare reports for the Superintendent and Board of Education on personnel trends and strategic HR initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· School District Leader (SDL) Certification is required.
· Master’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
· Minimum three to five years of progressive leadership experience in human resources within a school district or comparable organization.
· Demonstrated expertise in labor relations, employment law, and personnel management.
· Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in HR management systems and data analysis tools.
Salary Range: $160,000 - $185,000
Start Date: July 1, 2025 (Probationary Appointment)
