About the role:
- Provide platform and system thermal technical leadership for Ampere's Domain Specific Accelerators (DSA).
- Provide the competitive analysis of next generation thermal designs for datacenter DSA form factors in both air and liquid-cooled regimes offered by competitors or standards organizations.
- Provide cross functional leadership to derive datacenter platform and system thermal/mechanical design specifications working with silicon architecture team, package design team, and platform design team.
- Perform trade-off studies to meet cost, thermal performance, and compute performance targets.
- Lead thermal/mechanical detailed design activities of Ampere’s DSA’s in terms of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration—from concept to formal cross-functional design reviews.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturing (DFM) and thermal performance.
- Create the test plan for the thermal/mechanical design and validate the design by conducting validation activities.
- Create the design BOM and release the thermal/mechanical design specification and BOM into Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) database.
- Work with platform team to develop, bring-up, and validate Ampere platforms to meet product requirements.
- Work with the Program Manager to manage the thermal/mechanical design/development activities and associated schedules.
- Provide engineering support for customer questions related to thermal/mechanical design of server platform and system.
- Drive thermal/mechanical technology development activities to enable Ampere's next-generation DSA’s and datacenter products.
About you:
- Server, datacenter, or high-performance computing platform thermal design experience across multiple full product life cycles, from concept to HVM production.
- Expertise in thermodynamics, modeling and simulation with CFD and solid modeling tools, Flotherm and Solidworks or equivalent.
- Experience with OCP Accelerator Module (OAM) and PCIe Add-In Card (AIC) form factors, compatible thermal solutions, and design constraints.
- Experience with liquid cooled thermal solutions and technologies used in Datacenter modules and systems.
- Experience with large, multi-die packages (MCP), silicon layout, construction materials and the relation to cooling strategies.
- Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and root cause failure analysis.
- Experience with thermal mechanical validation test processes including First Article Inspection (FAI), shock, vibration and thermal testing & characterization.
- Mechanical Engineering - Bachelor's degree & 8 years of related experience; or Master's degree & 6 years; or PhD & 3 years
Preferred
- Experience with system integration into data center rack level and meeting environmental requirements.
- Experience with 1U, 2U, and 4U server layouts and thermal/mechanical trade-off studies.
- Experience leading Customer/ODM/Contract Manufacturer (CM) product development from definition through manufacturing release.

The full base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $225,600, except in the San Francisco Bay Area where the range is between $146,300 and $243,800.
