JOB SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, the Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation and profitability of a Custom Cable district office. The Operations Manager is responsible for the activities of all assigned Team Members working out of the district, either on a full time basis or on temporary assignment.
Team Members under this classification may also be tasked with additional responsibilities at the discretion and direction of their immediate supervisor. A common situation for this condition is a district office where workload requires Team Members to perform multiple job functions. Additional responsibilities are assigned to District Managers based on each individual’s abilities and the needs of the company.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
FUNDAMENTAL:
Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance and personal workspace.- Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s current insurance carrier standards.
- Accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from the immediate district office area. Based on client needs, business needs and project scope the District Manager will designate work assignments that involve travel. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate personal Team Member situations during these assignments.
- Act as role model and lead by example to district Team Members.
GENERAL:
Work within the definition and responsibilities for the individual’s job classification.- Accept direction and critiques from Team Members in higher classifications.
- Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage, misuse, theft, etc.
- Seek guidance and direction on issues where uncertainty exists and/or policy dictates.
- Attend classes and training sessions, as requested by Custom Cable management, to obtain and maintain vendor certifications.
- Perform all duties, responsibilities and assignments with a total Commitment to Excellence.
- Represent Custom Cable Industries at all times in a professional and ethical manner.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely, neat and accurate manner.
- Maintain accurate records and logs regarding use of private automobile for company business trips and other out-of-pocket expenses that are job related.
BUSINESS:
Assist by providing input to corporate management on sales and profit goal objectives for the district.- Attain district sales and profit goals established by the corporate management.
- Strive to surpass district sales and profit goals.
- Minimize the corporation’s financial exposure by securing proposal pricing with firm quotations from sub-contractors, suppliers and vendors.
- Uphold the corporation’s values and ethics by conducting business in a fair and ethical manner.
- Control district costs and expenditures in a manner that achieves corporate profitability goals while providing effective district operation.
- Manage Team Member compensation to fairly compensate individuals based on their skills, contributions and value to the corporation.
- Conform to, or follow variance procedures to corporate compensation policies when determining initial and adjusted compensation for Team Members.
- Either directly or through support staff, respond to Request for Proposals utilizing corporate proposal templates, tools and processes.
- Ensure proposals are professional, effective and that they meet and exceed the client’s expectations.
- Ensure proposals clearly define the scope of the work being proposed to clearly set the expectations of the client for the work included under the proposal.
- Develop and approve pricing strategies for all proposals that affect the district.
- Follow corporate project pricing strategies. Deviations must follow the deviation process and required approvals must be obtained.
- Ensure efficient and accurate projects through timely, accurate and complete information flow between individuals.
- Maintain corporate confidentiality on all business matters both internal and external to the corporation.
- Manage the material procurement process in a method that conforms to corporate procurement procedures while producing highly efficient material management for each project.
- Manage district responsibilities by ensuring all Team Members have suitable and effective back-ups during activates where the primary Team Member is unavailable (i.e. vacations, training etc.).
- Remain knowledgeable on the business climate and conditions within the district to the extent required to position the company competitively in the market.
- Establish and maintain relationships and certifications with manufacturers that support the district business plan.
LEADERSHIP:
Be knowledgeable on all aspects of business conducted at or on behalf of the district office.- Intervene and alter situations accordingly to uphold corporate ethics, standards, policies and good business practices.
- Motivate Team Members through positive reinforcement, acknowledgements and reward activities to achieve job satisfaction and maximum productivity from Team Members.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet client commitments, acceptable Team Member workload, overtime objectives, corporate growth objectives and district profitability.
- Maintain direct support staff to meet district responsibilities to enable sufficient time to provide district leadership.
- Ensure all commitments are kept to clients, distributors and Custom Cable’s corporate office.
- Intervene and solve scheduling problems, as necessary, between Project Managers and Installation/Technician staff.
- Direct responsibility for entire district staffing. Establish and enforce procedure to ensure District Manger has decision-making opportunity on all staff increases, reductions and alterations.
- Position requires excellent problem resolution skills.
- Ensure all performance reviews are completed on time in a manner consistent with corporate policies and expectations.
- Remain available to district Team Members during all project activities including periods of traditional and non-traditional working hours. The primary purpose of this requirement is to alert and obtain direction from senior management in the event of injuries or major adverse events while on the project.
SALES:
Ensure the district Account Manager is performing in an effective manner to market the abilities and services of Custom Cable with the primary objective to attain sales goals.- Ensure the district Account Manager is effectively developing and maintaining client relationships. Any concerns or issues with Account Managers performance or activities are to be addressed with the corporate Sales Manager.
- Become involved in sales and client activities as needed to support the district Account Manager.
TECHNICAL:
Directly or indirectly responsible for the complete technical solution and workability of all proposed solutions.- Recruit, retain and develop Team Members in order to meet the technical aptitude required to perform meet district commitments.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent required.- Degree in Business highly preferred.
- Position requires Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years college level courses, preferably in the computer sciences or business areas.
- For an individual possessing minimum educational requirements this position requires a minimum of three (3) years direct industry-related work experience. A minimum of five (5) years direct industry-related work experience is required for an individual not possessing minimum educational requirements.
- Desire and ability to learn and advance in the telecommunications field.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
The fundamental skills required are: time management, project management, ability to communicate technical matters in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing, ability to read and understand highly technical publications, bid proposals and instructions.- Ability to create and maintain a very professional work environment by creating and enforcing codes of conduct and leading by example.
- Ability to understand and comprehend business profit and loss statements.
- Ability to alter day-to-day business practices as necessary based on profit and loss figures to ensure financial success of the district office.
- Ability to effectively staff a district office with individuals possessing the skills and abilities necessary to achieve a successful operation.
- Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position has no physical requirements above the physical ability to meet all other position responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical working condition is that of a professional business office environment. Periodic visits to project sites are required. Project sites are often construction sites with open ceilings, open walls and no environmental air control. This environment also includes the presence of numerous construction trades.- Outside travel is required. Travel is typically intrastate for periods of one week or less, however extended travel or out of state travel is a possibility.
