Job Description
Essential functions:
Case Management and Organization
- Maintains, organizes, and manages all case-related materials.
- Prepares and maintains hyperlinked indices, witness notebooks for witness prep sessions.
- Organizes, marks, and maintains exhibits and coordinates integration of exhibit indexes with case database.
- Coordinate with internal resources and outside vendor services per firm's rules and guidelines.
- Assist attorney team day-to-day management litigations from pre-suit appeals, maintenance, and organization master case files, including coordination, finalization, filing of briefs, complaints, answers, pro hac vice applications, claim construction briefing, motions and supporting exhibits, and summary judgment briefing.
- Conducts factual/legal research compiling results in an organized manner.
- Drafts correspondence basic pleadings notices motions.
- Responsible for cite checking and Blue Book assignments for briefs and prepare Tables of Authorities. Organize supporting affidavits and exhibits. Copy check, assemble, and proof briefs (Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg training).
- Assists attorneys with preparation of document productions and/or organization of documents produced to us.
- Assist attorney team in coordinating the collection, management and preparation of document productions, including interacting with third-party vendors.
- Prepares privilege logs, prepares index logs or coordinates automation of discovery documents with the assistance of the Litigation Support group.
- Assist attorney team management/retrieval patents prior art U.S./international file histories;
- Prepares deposition digests and witness interview summaries and post-trial/settlement case clean-up and warehousing.
- Assists attorneys with preparation for and during depositions with an in-depth deposition preparations, coordination, logistics, and management of deposition materials.
- Assists attorneys on-site at depositions with note-taking, exhibit tracking, and preparation of deposition summaries.
- Following application-specific training (LiveNote), offers support and maintains deposition collections within the Firm approved software application.
- Assists attorneys with preparation for trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, etc.
- Prepares key document and issue binders and other materials for witness prep sessions.
- Assist attorney team preparation materials support expert reports documents cited/relied on exhibits/lists materials considered;
- Organizes, assembles, marks, and maintains exhibits.
- Coordinates preparation of exhibit tracking database for trial.
- Prepares pre-trial exhibit lists, marked pleadings, attorney trial notebooks.
- Assists attorneys on-site at trial: prepare arrange delivery of set-up supplies to court.
- 5 - 7 years of litigation legal assistance experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of relevant jurisdictional, court, agency processes, procedural requirements, including knowledge of PTAB, federal court practices, local rules and deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency and understanding of a litigation lifecycle, key documents especially in area patent litigation.
- Advanced knowledge litigation docketing calculations/deadline identification.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision/manage competing deadlines, assignments, prioritization; troubleshoot creatively, problem solve, and identify solutions; work with other paralegals or personal assistants; and delegate, follow-up, quality check, provide constructive feedback as necessary.
- Fundamental proficiency in software including but not limited to Relativity LiveNote Case Notebook PACER ECF/P-TACTS USPTO Patent Center Docket Navigator file transfer platforms Lexis Nexis/Westlaw.
- Technology savvy/high comfort level for subsequent Firm sponsored end user training in various software applications: Word, Excel, Relativity, IPRO, CaseMap, Live Note, Westlaw, Lexis and Bloomberg.
- The duties of the position requires extended and irregular hours to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Foreign language a plus.
