Come join Lotus Bloom as our Development Manager in East Oakland! We are looking for someone who is passionate about bringing early childhood education to traditionally underserved communities throughout Oakland through a variety of daily activities geared at promoting healthy outcomes for both the child and their family to join the Lotus Bloom team.
What You'll Do
The Development Manager is responsible for cultivating mission-aligned funding, building successful partnerships, and effectively communicating our mission and activities across diverse audiences via social media platforms, newsletters, emails, and in-person. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager is responsible for fundraising, grant writing and grant management, individual giving, communications (internal and external), operationalizing and maintaining the Salesforce donor database, and instituting and managing a fund development calendar, and building a base of financial support by communicating Lotus Bloom’s mission and impact to external stakeholders. This position will supervise one staff member, Data & Marketing Specialist.
What Experience You Will Bring
- At least five (5) years’ experience in development/fundraising position(s) focused on cultivating donor relationships for nonprofit organizations with over $2M in operating expenses/revenues. Educational or professional attainment in sales or marketing may be substituted for years of experience.
- At least two (2) years’ experience in communications or marketing
- At least two (2) years’ fundraising experience from major gift donors, foundation, corporate and government supporters
- Proven track record of securing government, foundation grants, and institutional donors.
- Grow the individual donor base
- Year over year proven experience in meeting or exceeding fundraising revenue goals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally and respectfully with donors, community partners, board members, potential corporate donors, volunteers, and staff
- Ability to adapt communication style to fit a particular audience/purpose
- Excellent project & time management skills
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace Suite, Canva, SalesForce, social media platforms and digital photography formats
- Intermediate to advanced experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms such as SalesForce
- Experience with MailChimp email marketing programs
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and ability to self-manage deadlines
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism environment while managing multiple priorities and projects
- Ability to provide honest and rational feedback
- Ability to occasionally attend functions/activities outside normal hours
- Valid California driver’s license with insurable driving record to travel to networking, fundraising events and donor meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous leadership experience in a client-facing nonprofit organization
- Moderate-to-extensive knowledge of early childhood education and child development issues

Physical Requirements
This position performs its duties in an open office environment. You must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:
- Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for the duration of shift.
- Able to operate standard office equipment including computers, keyboard, phones, and printers.
- Safely lift, move, and transport items weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Communicate in a clear speaking voice in person, over the phone and during video conferences.
- Ability to complete DOJ LiveScan screening.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a regular full-time, exempt position scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, with occasional nights and weekends with advanced notice. The starting rate of pay is $80,831. Lotus Bloom offers the following benefits for this position including:
- Choice of Kaiser HMO or Aetna POS medical plan and Delta Dental PPO dental plan with 100% coverage for employees and 50% for dependents. VSP Vision is optional add-on coverage.
- Paid leaves of absence including 13 paid holidays, 80 hours of vacation accrual and 80 paid sick leave accrual in your 1st year.
