What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Manager position at Amsted Industries?
What you will do:
The person filling this position will develop plans and have vision where Amsted Rail - Petersburg to continuously improve upon current processes and develop suppliers to maintain a steady flow of consistent quality products and processes to meet the ever-changing needs of the company’s business
- Lead, manage and plan the quality control activities performed by the product launch team both domestically and internationally
- Create, communicate, and execute the company’s long-range quality strategy
- Develop control procedures to ensure compliance to internal, customer, and regulatory standards
- Ensure proper documentation to ensure compliance to internal, customer, and regulatory standards
- Monitor Production Processes and work with Operations to resolve quality-related issues in a timely manor
- Assess the strength of our supplier base and provide a ranking of their strengths and weaknesses.
- Ensure high level of process and product quality for Quality Engineering activities related to development and manufacture of products
- Promote the company’s operational visions, values, and goals
- Maintain professional contact with employees and suppliers
- Champion continuous improvement activities and measurement efforts by analyzing data, interpreting findings and implementing corrective actions
- Must have knowledge basic statistics, including SPC and data analysis tools; proficiency with Minitab desired
- Manage corrective and preventive action process; lead root cause investigations, implement corrective actions, and follow through on effectiveness checks
- Oversee inspection activities—incoming parts, set-up/in-process inspection, first piece approval and final product audits
- Work closely with internal departments (Design, Planning, and Production) to resolve in-house and supplier quality issues
- Direct and supervise the work-flow of Engineers, Technicians and Inspectors in a diverse operation
- Performs internal and vendor audits to applicable standards including customer specifics
- Manger Quality team including training, mentoring, and performance improvements
- Identifies performance indicators (positive or negative) with existing product designs.
Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality and/or Engineering such as material science, mechanical or related discipline or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years managerial experience in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years work experience in quality assurance, supplier quality, and auditing
- Experience with development of internal processes and suppliers preferred
- Prior experience in delivering results through others

- Knowledge of measuring equipment, including CMM programming and operation is a plus.
- Knowledge of IAFT 16949 is a plus
