What are the responsibilities and job description for the Low Voltage Technician III position at Amteck, LLC?
Primary Role:
The Technicians 3’s fundamental role is to work as part of a team to install, maintain, and repair cabling and devices for low voltage systems. They work u der the direction of others to perform field work and are required to install a quality product in compliance with contractual documents and all applicable codes. Technician 3’s can perform their job duties independently, fill in for Technologies Superintendents as needed, and provide some training to others. Their work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion by the person they report to- typically a Technologies Project Manager or Technologies Superintendent. The right individual for this position is a capable leader that places the priority on client satisfaction, team safety, working with budget consciousness, and striving for excellence, as well as the ability to teach their teams these qualities.
Responsibilities:
• Lead teams of 4-6 team members and work hands-on to install, repair, terminate, certify and troubleshoot devices and cabling of low voltage systems, with guidance from a Tech Superintendent when needed
• Assist site Superintendent in various ways, able to assume their responsibilities as needed
• Demonstrate above average leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with a desire to continue growing those skills
• Able to work with, train and supervise other technicians
• Determine pathways and perform most installations without instruction or supervision
• Install, repair, terminate, certify, and label cabling for one or more of the following systems:
o Infrastructure (ITS)
o Access Control/Security
o Cameras (CCTV)
o Paging systems
• Install Devices for one or more of the following systems:
o Access Control/Security
o Cameras (CCTV)
o Access Points (Wi-Fi)
o Paging systems
• Assist with completing service calls that involve troubleshooting and identifying faults with one or more of the following systems:
o Copper (Analog systems)
o Fiber
o Audio/Visual (AV)
o Cameras (CCTV)
• Responsible for keeping inventory of and maintaining materials of assigned site
• May be expected to work with manager to plan/communicate task schedule and goals to team members
• Work independently with minimal instruction or supervision to build out of MDF, IDF, Enclosures, Ladder Tray, Basket, and install 2-4 post racks
• Responsible for punch down, routing, labelling, and dressing all cabling coming into Rack or Enclosure correctly and accurately
• Installs equipment and Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) systems into Rack or Enclosure when needed
• Understand and identify differences in Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber
• Use certifiers and interpret copper and fiber test results
• Actively participates in leadership training when given the opportunity
• Identifies any delays or obstacles of assigned task or service and communicates with immediate supervisor
• Work independently to determine and install pathways
• Understand and adhere to BICSI , ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage Installations
• Terminate data jacks and mod plugs
• Understand specifications of IDF and data closet enclosures and assists with installation and repair of those enclosures
• Correctly and safety feed cable, wire and/or wires during installation
• Use and maintain test equipment, including operating remote end of testing equipment
• Responsible for safely using, maintaining, and interpretation of results for all test equipment under their direction; uploads test results to the proper location
• Prints labels in adherence with job specs
• Cross Connect or Patch-in Copper or Fiber systems as designed
• Keeps detailed records of device and cabling locations
• Understands firestopping, riser versus plenum environments
• Work with and around other construction trades in a professional, productive and safe manner
• Make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects such as small electronic parts
• Perform skilled work while overcoming common environmental challenges such as working in cramped areas, overhead, at heights, and in a variety of weather conditions
• Work with others in a cooperative manner; understand and follow direction
• Think and act quickly in emergency situations and perform under pressure
• Complete tasks accurately and productively, always seeking guidance for any unclear aspects of the task and immediately seeking a new task when the current task is finished
• Work to learn job-related material through peers, supervisors, and company training
• Accountable for tools and materials used on the jobsite and responsible for securing and returning them to the designated area
• Obtain required Amteck safety certifications, communicate with team members regarding any safety deficiencies, and work safely without presenting a direct threat to self and others
Requirements:
• 4 years of verified experience with low voltage systems and cabling
• Demonstrates aptitude to plan project workflow with understanding basis of design and task efficiency
• Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following systems: Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging
• Demonstrated experience installing devices for one or more of the following systems: Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Access Points (Wi-Fi) Cameras (CCTV), and Paging
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting one or more of the following systems: Copper, Fiber, AV, Cameras, and Access Control/Security Systems
• Has or is able to obtain manufacturer certification in Unicam fiber terminations
• Has or is able to obtain manufacturer certification in Mini-Com terminations
• Experience with build out of MDF, IDF, Enclosures, Ladder Tray, Basket, and installing 2-4 post racks
• Experience with punch down, routing, labeling, and dressing all cabling coming into Rack or Enclosure correctly and accurately
• Experience with installing Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) systems and equipment into Rack or Enclosure
• Understands and can identify differences in Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber
• Ability to terminate data jacks and mod plugs; and properly feed cable, fiber and/or wires
• Demonstrated ability to use, operate and maintain test equipment, and interpret copper and fiber test results
• Able to learn and comprehend fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office and related software programs to perform job responsibilities such as understanding project plans, communicating, and examining job costs
• Can maintain clear and detailed records as needed
• Understands firestopping, riser versus plenum spaces, and specs needed for each
• Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage installations
• Must be able to read a measuring tape to 1/16 of an inch
• Providing personal hand tools needed to perform routine work within 30 days of employment, as per Amteck’s tool list
• Demonstrates a basic understanding of customer relationships and the concept of customer satisfaction, with an aptitude for growing that skill
• Able to use hand and power tools, and does so in a safe and cautious manner
• Able to read blueprints, schematics, drawing details, wire maps and other drawings, including reading and understanding specifications of IDF and data closet enclosures
• Meet all physical requirements of the position
• Able to travel to meet customer objectives when needed
