About the role
As a Laboratory Accessioner, you play a crucial role in the initial phase of the laboratory testing process, ensuring the smooth and accurate handling of specimens. Your responsibilities encompass receiving, logging, and organizing specimens with meticulous attention to detail. This pivotal position bridges the gap between specimen collection and laboratory analysis, laying the foundation for precise and reliable test results.
Requirements:
- BS in Life Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related discipline
- 0-2 years of lab experience within the biotech or healthcare industry
- Knowledge of parentage testing and medical terminology is preferred
- Proficiency in the use of Google Docs & Spreadsheets and/or Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
- Comfortable working with specialized laboratory instrumentation and software applications
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow approved laboratory procedures, including safety procedures.
- Maintain client services Quality Control through communication and problem solving to ensure test order accuracy and prompt service delivery.
- Coordinate logistics for sample deliveries and pick-ups.
- Maintain proper labelling and documentation of sample/specimen received.
- Review, transcribe and enter patient demographics and specimen data into the laboratory information system.
- Identify problems with sample/specimen received and contact appropriate parties to correct the problem.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include laboratory testing, data analysis, instrument calibration and maintenance, and other support functions.
- Participate in continuing education.
