TITLE: Safety Officer

REPORTS TO: Safety Director
Anchor Construction Corporation has an immediate opening for a full‐time Safety Officer.
Anchor is in the midst of an exciting transformation. As a safety team, we are modernizing and delivering our services in new and creative ways, including upgrading our tools and processes to the most modern in the market. This role is part of a broader safety leadership team charged with designing and executing a safety strategy that is driving the broader Anchor Construction business objectives. This position is located in Landover, Maryland and reports to the Director of Safety.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Daily inspections, which cover job sites, vehicles, and work areas such as the yard, shop, and the offices
- Report any safety violation found and ensure any unsafe conditions, equipment, and health hazards are corrected before leaving the location
- Hold on‐site safety training when conditions warrant training
- Hold bi‐monthly safety training for each crew using the Safety Van
- Complete daily inspection meetings, 25‐35 inspections are required per week
- Inspect equipment, tools, rigging, and PPE to ensure these are in safe conditions. If not, make sure the foreman/crew leader requests replacement items
- Contact Safety Director to purchase required items
- Identify company‐wide training needs based on violations and near misses
- Investigate accident/incidents and complete accurate reports on the HCSS system, which may be used in court. Reports will be written and must have applicable photographs
- Complete daily reports on the HCSS system
- Report any problems and/or safety hazards to Safety Director
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA, State regulations, and all safety policies and procedures
- Will assist foreman as needed with problem areas and suggestions for corrections of safety
- May perform other duties as assigned by Safety Director
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:
- May assist supervisor with assignments while on site
- May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate well in writing and verbally
- Ability to work effectively with minor supervision
- Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English; bilingually with Spanish is highly
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as company needs
- Must have valid Driver's License with 3 points or less (driving record must be submitted for consideration with application)
- Must be able to deal with problem people
- Minimum education level of High School diploma or GED
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Must have an OSHA 30‐hour Construction Industry completion card
- Completion of OSHA 510 and 500; Completion of CHST with NFP70
- Required to submit to drug testing at least once a year
Physical Demands Heavy
Expected to lift up to 120 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying objects Must be physically able to walk over rough terrain
Work Environment Moderate
Occasionally exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise fumes, dust, etc.)
Exposed to the outdoor elements (cold, heat, rain, snow, etc.) Noise level can be loud at work sites
Pay Range: $70,000 - $78,000/ year
