Work with journeyman craftsmen as a trainee in execution of one or more trades (i.e. Pipe, Iron worker, Boilermaker, etc.) to develop craft skill with a goal of advancement to skilled trademan.
Responsibilities:
- Provide both our customers safe, clean, reliable, on-time, and courteous service.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade and to work sites.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers.
- Grinding pipe, plate and structural forms; use of hoisting equipment; come-alongs, snatch blocks, chain falls.
- Operating air hoist under the direction of craftsman or foreman, rigging of pipe, plate, equipment, and structural members and assisting in their proper placement on the job site and at related facilities.
- Bolting and unbolting of pipe, structural, or equipment systems and related items.
- Operate air, saws, reed cutters, impact wrenches, hydraulic jacks, and other hand-operated tools.
- Identify, transport, and install valves, pipefittings, bolts, gaskets, pipe supports, structural steel pieces, and other material associated with one or more crafts, as directed.
- Assist in hole watch/ fire watch duties, which includes but are not limited to, placement of fire blankets, covering drains and vents, placement of firefighting equipment, erecting/monitoring barricades.
- Assisting in the movement of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to/from workplace.
- May be assigned various auxiliary duties such as, refueling, housekeeping, moving compressed gas cylinders, stringing welding lead, extension cords, drop lights, air hose, cable, wire, rope, etc.
- Knowledge of lift operator signaling.
- Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
Job Requirements:
- Apply basic mathematics to solve problems.
- Plan work and select proper tools.
- Work at heights without fear.
- Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
- Operate machinery.
Minimum Tools and Gear:
- Hard Hat
- Safety-toe Protective Footwear
Required Training and Certifications:
- OSHA10 (will be provided within first six months if not already trained prior to employment)
- Manlift and Forklift Training (will be provided within first week on the jobsite if not already trained prior to employment)
- Signalperson and Rigger Training (will be provided within first six months if not already trained prior to employment)
- Confined Space Training (will be provided within first week on the jobsite if not already trained prior to employment)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with 0-2 years of experience in the field or a related area. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely, safe and efficient manner. Typically reports to a Foreman or other direct supervisor.
