Plant Quality & Safety Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for the maintaining safety and quality documentation, leading safety and food safety training, responding to customer requests, implementing systems, and coordinating internal and third-party audits for Anchor Ingredients Co., LLC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Documentation Management
  • Develop and implement internal quality procedures necessary for compliance with customer and 3rd party requirements
  • Review internal lab results for compliance to specifications
  • Conduct regular reviews of facility documentation and update as necessary
  • Maintain documentation for all third-party audit certification
  • Develop & update product specifications for products produced at Anchor facilities
  • Work with procurement and operations to refine inbound specs and grading criteria
Customer Service
  • Work alongside Sales and Customer Service Teams to ensure compliance with Anchor and customer requirements
  • Identify new policies/procedures in response to customer requests
  • Send quality documentation in response to customer requests
  • Investigate, document, and respond to non-conformances regarding products produced
  • Research lot, PO and/or COAs to respond to inquiries from internal or external customers
  • Effectively communicate quality related requirements/information to diverse audiences
Process Improvement
  • Provide guidance for all standard operating procedures related to quality, sanitation, and food safety
  • Drive quality project management as it relates to corrective action, non-conformance, process improvement and audits
  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase operational efficiencies and communication
  • Generate quarterly key performance data for quality management and operation leadership review
Internal Facility Compliance
  • Monitor and observe at Anchor’s Production Facilities for the following –
    • Corrective actions that have been identified in response to audit findings (both internal & 3rd party) as well as those that have been determined through root cause investigations from QA Incidents are getting effectively implemented
    • Monitor and ensure employees are adhering to all Safety and Food Safety policies, programs and procedures
    • Personnel are wearing attire in accordance with Safety and Food Safety Policies
Licenses & Permits
  • Ensure that all applicable licenses are kept current
  • File any necessary permit application
  • Obtain additional licensing as identified
  • Ensure sites and adhering to all internal policies and procedures that have been implemented for compliance with said licenses & permits
Safety Management Program
  • Perform and document the annual review of all safety programs
    • Make any necessary changes to the program, updating the documents as needed
    • Train employees on any updates
  • Create LOTO procedures for new equipment installations
  • Ensure necessary permits are accurately completed
    • Confined space, hot works, etc.
  • Ensure inspections are completed, accurate and on file
    • Forklift, manlift, fire extinguishers, etc.
  • Stay current with requirements of each license/permit and communicate updates/new requirements as they arise
Food Safety
  • Coordinate, lead, and provide meeting minutes for monthly food safety meetings across all sites
  • Update training material and/or develop material when new training topics arise
  • Responsible for new-hire and annual food safety training of all plant operators, mechanics, and supervisors
  • Foster and grow food safety culture across all operations
Third Party and Internal Auditing
  • Act as company designated SQF Practitioner
  • Perform all monthly internal auditing functions across the Anchor facility network
    • Record findings and determine corrective actions for quality management and senior leadership review
    • Follow up to ensure corrective actions have been implement and are effective
  • Coordinate and host all customers for third-party, and SQF audits at Anchor facilities unless otherwise directed by Quality Manager
Quality Control
  • Coordinate sample requests from Anchor facilities to internal customers including sales, logistics, accounting, quality, and operations
  • Ability to perform various testing, retesting, and calibrations of quality equipment including NIR, Reveal Q , and Rotap particle size testing products
Quality Systems
  • Manage internal non-conformance database, set up new user access and troubleshoot issues with network administrator
  • Manage QA incidents for Anchor facilities.
  • Key user of iAuditor software
    • Update corrective actions and maintain site specific templates
  • Identify and implement solutions for potential risk exposure
General Responsibilities
  • Project work or items outside of this Job Description, as specified from time to time by the QA Manager and Plant Manager.
  • In common with all other personnel within Anchor Ingredients, the Job Holder is required to adhere to the Company’s policies on Safety, Hygiene and good housekeeping. Specifically:
    • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions
    • To co-operate regarding any duty or requirement
    • To report to his/her immediate manager any hazard which may be discovered at the place of work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • Demonstrated problem solving experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the process and procedures necessary to produce deliverables
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player

This job operates within both a professional office environment as well as ingredient processing facilities.
While performing the duties of this job within the processing facilities, the employee will be exposed to machinery and moving parts. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, high precarious places and confined spaces, & airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection. While performing the duties of this job inside the office, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for an office environment with a noise level that is usually quiet to moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
