SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each child and to ensure a positive school culture that is conducive to student learning. The Principal, under the supervision of the Superintendent, has immediate charge and direction of the school. The Principal is responsible for efficient performance of the duties of his/her staff. The Principal will observe the work of employees and offer guidance, feedback, and support when necessary. The Principal will be responsible for constant evaluation and supervision of employees and of the instructional program of the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the overall instructional program of the school.
- Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the school program including student conduct, teacher effectiveness, and parental involvement.
- Coordinates and supervises all activities related to the Professional Development program of the school; prepares and files all district level applications, budgets, reports, evaluations and correspondence for the PD program; and supports the implementation of the PD programming the school.
- Makes pupil and personnel assignments.
- Responsible for accurate attendance reporting.
- Coordinates the screening of instructional applicants with the School Council and makes the final recommendation to the Superintendent.
- Coordinates and directs curriculum planning, development, and implementation in all educational areas in order to continually improve the instructional program for the school district, reach the District’s learning outcomes, and meet the requirements identified by the Board and Kentucky Department of Education rules and regulations.
- Attends Board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.
- Responsible for all internal accounts of school activities in accordance with acceptable accounting practices.
- Works with the Program Coordinator in developing the Extended School Services plan and the Safe School’s program.
- Chairs and facilitates the work of the School Council and formulates recommendations to the Superintendent related to the improvement of the instructional program for the students.
- Provides good public relations and orientation programs for the school.
- Assures the successful implementation of the Kentucky Academic Standards.
- Develops and implements School Improvement Plan, resulting in measurable improvement in student performance results.
- Conducts regular faculty meetings (whole school, by level, and/or content) which are devoted to pertinent school problems and improvement of instruction.
- Directs and supervises all personnel assigned to the building, certified and classified.
- Responsible for close coordination and communication with the school parent- teacher association and other parent or volunteer groups.
- Administers reasonable discipline for student violation of the Board Policy on acceptable behavior and discipline.
- Maintains a current inventory of all Board equipment and textbooks within the school and shall report any loss in writing promptly to the superintendent.
- Provides for and arranges the scheduling of extra-curricular events.
- Confers with the Superintendent and Superintendent’s designee concerning recommendation of employees for employment or reemployment in the school.
- Promotes school exhibits, assigns curricular, extra-curricular, and other duties to all employees within the school.
- Formally evaluate all certified staff pursuant to Board Policy.
- Assures that all classified staff are evaluated at least once annually pursuant to Board Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or higher with Kentucky Certification in Principalship at the appropriate level.
- Three (3) years successful school teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with various groups.
