QUALIFICATIONS : Appropriate Kentucky Administrative Certification
Degrees and experience commensurate with job description.
REPORTS TO : Principals report to Superintendent.
Assistant Principals report to Principal.
SUPERVISES : Certified and classified personnel assigned full or part-time to the school.
JOB GOALS : The principal shall have immediate charge and direction of the school and of all school programs to insure its fiscal, academic, and educational effectiveness.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Plans classes within established local and state guidelines in order to meet the student's needs.
- Supervises programs to enhance individual student education and development.
- Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct and maintains student discipline.
- Supervises the school's teaching process.
- Plans, organizes and directs implementation of specific school activities (as assigned by principal).
- Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate.
- Interprets Board policies and administrative directives; discusses and resolves individual student instructional problems.
- Coordinates and supervises such support services as maintenance, security, food service, recreational programs, financial and accounting services and the like.
- Implements and supervises the school's special education program in an appropriate manner to chair appropriate School Based Admissions and Release Committee meetings.
- Assumes leadership in the direction of the school's co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual performance.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
- Participates in principals' meetings and all other such meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors expenditure of funds.
- Maintains and accounts for the various funds generated by student activities.
- Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
- Works with appropriate central office administrative staff regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies and curriculum.
- Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes and new programs and to implement professional development programs.
- Keeps the superintendent informed of the school's successes, activities and problems.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Exerts leadership in the development of professional development programs for all staff members.
- Provides for the proper supervision of pupils at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
- Has immediate charge and direction of the school as mandated under Meade County Board of Education Policy and / or School Council Policies.
- Develops and maintains effective public relations with the school community.
EVALUATION : Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel. The superintendent and / or designee will evaluate principals. The supervising principal will evaluate assistant principals.
