- Registered Dietetic Nutritionist Technician credential.
- Registered Dietitian certification with the State of Alaska.
- Two years of experience demonstrating a strong ability to create, plan, and organize menus.
- Two years of work or academic experience relating to food service marketing.
- One year of experience or comparable course work in public relations and public speaking.
- Plans menus, creates balanced menu cycles, and performs nutritional analysis to ensure that all meals served meet:
- USDA standards as described by the Child Nutrition Programs.
- Student Nutrition Department budget, policies, and procedures.
- Complies with federal, state, and local food safety regulations.
- Develops and implements appropriate allergy plans for special meal accommodations and assists in finding accommodations to support all disabled or otherwise nutritionally challenged students.
- Interacts with teachers, principals, school nurses, and cafeteria managers to assist them in meeting their responsibilities for meal accommodations and related allergy limits. This includes but is not limited to: offering training, keeping appropriate staff informed of changes, maintaining files for individual students, updated digital files, and checking meal requests.
- Inputs and maintains nutritional information for all food items in the department software.
- Supports supervisors in planning and conducting workshops for food service personnel.
- Helps establish goals and expectations for increased operational efficiency.
- Provides continued support and monitoring of performance.
- Collaborates with kitchen managers and supervisors to aid in process improvements for ordering, production, and operations.
- Assists in the training of the central kitchen manager, school kitchen managers, and operation supervisors in areas of production, standardized recipes, lunchroom strategies, meal pattern compliance, and allergy related procedures.
- Builds and maintains relationships with vendors to ensure quality and pricing of food and supplies.
- Researches and contacts local producers and manufacturers to establish new relations and markets.
- Participates in the bid process for food and supplies, following established Anchorage School District procedures.
- Assists in maintaining minimum bid specs for food items.
- Researches and supports updating bid specs for equipment and small wares.
- Drafts bids for submittal on new projects.
- Collaborates with Alaska Grown and Farm to School community partners to develop education, expand awareness of the programs, and increase local, fresh produce availability.
- Promotes nutrition education in the schools, the home, and the community by collaborating with community partners and others in ASD in promoting and supporting healthy food habits, program integrity, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborates with the media, special organizational groups, and classroom teachers to promote the Student Nutrition Department and its mission.
- Inspects school kitchens and establishes changes needed for maintaining or improving efficiency of production.

Job Summary
The Student Nutrition Outreach Dietitian has a leadership role in promoting nutrition education, integrity, quality, and customer satisfaction as a representative of the Student Nutrition Department to the school district and our community. The position has a strong focus on building bridges to the classroom, community, and Anchorage area marketplace. The Outreach Dietitian plans menus, researches new ingredients and recipes, in addition to being an integral part of the operations, logistics, production, and long term planning that efficiently support the department. The Outreach Dietitian ensures that all meals and food items served meet USDA standards as described by the Child Nutrition Program. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required.
