- A high school diploma or equivalent education.
- Three years of experience in custodial work and three years of experience in management or equivalent.
- Must possess a good working knowledge of custodial skills.
- Ability to supervise and train employees.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A valid Alaska driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain base access to JBER during employment at ASD.
- Bilingual in English and one of the following: Tagalog, Spanish, or Hmong.
- Thorough knowledge of ASD building locations, interior layouts, and perimeter access points.
- Ability to maintain low-key security, supervision, and control over groups using ASD buildings, and to maintain a lone security watch when necessary.
- Ability to accept special assignments and to perform them efficiently without supervision.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships and work cooperatively with students, faculty, administrators, and the public.
- Ability to develop and maintain outstanding customer service.
- Working knowledge of basic preventative maintenance of auto-scrubbers and related custodial power equipment.
- Continually assures that assigned school meets the cleanliness standards required by the Anchorage School District and the Operations Department.
- Accurately interprets written instructions and reports.
- Assigns workload in the school, frequently inspects work being performed, and evaluates assigned employees.
- Demonstrates procedures and methods to employees.
- Assists in training new custodial employees.
- Maintains work procedures to conform with Anchorage School District policies and the union contract.
- Keeps attendance and performance records on all assigned employees.
- Writes instructions, memorandums, records of counseling, and reprimands as necessary. Recommends other necessary disciplinary action.
- May act in a low-key security capacity during use of the school building during non-school hours and as a security watch when the building is not in use.
- May schedule security patrol shifts and communicate those with alarm monitoring contractor and District stakeholders.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment for the assigned school.
- May make minor, non-technical repairs to custodial equipment.
- Keeps organized and accurate records and writes daily clear and concise reports.

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
