Position Summary:
The Lead Veterinary Assistant supports the Practice Manager and medical leadership in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the veterinary assistant team. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, consistent training, and efficient workflow among the veterinary support team. The Lead VA will serve as a mentor, trainer, and point of contact for 10 assistants, helping to implement hospital protocols and reinforce Thrive’s core values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support onboarding, training, and mentorship of new and existing veterinary assistants
- Maintain a consistent standard of care and ensure adherence to hospital protocols
- Assist with daily team coordination, shift flow, and problem-solving
- Provide hands-on patient care alongside the team, including restraint, treatments, surgical prep, and recovery
- Communicate with the Practice Manager regarding staff performance, training needs, and process improvements
- Support a positive team culture through leadership, feedback, and accountability
- Collaborate with the Lead CSR to ensure seamless front-to-back communication and workflow

Qualifications:
- Minimum 5–7 years experience as a Veterinary Assistant
- Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, patient handling, and veterinary terminology
- Proven ability to train others and support team development
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Dependable, professional, and respectful team presence
- Must complete or be willing to complete Thrive U leadership development modules
- RVT license not required for this role
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, 5-doctor hospital with 18 team members
- Regular exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, and veterinary equipment
- Position requires lifting, standing for long periods, and working as part of a collaborative medical team
Compensation:
- Pay Range: $22–$25/hour, depending on experience and leadership capabilities
- Full-time, hourly position
