Position Overview
AWA is seeking a motivated and skilled Project Surveyor to join our team, contributing to our mission of delivering high-quality land development consulting services. This position plays a critical role in organizing, coordinating, and completing a variety of survey and mapping projects while supporting both field and office survey operations. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise, strong attention to detail, a relentless commitment to quality work, organizational skills, and a proactive attitude toward managing projects and solving problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and manage survey projects, ensuring they meet client needs, budgets, and deadlines.
- Perform boundary analysis, calculations, and determinations with oversight from our in-house PLS.
- Conduct research and analysis of deeds, title reports, rights-of-way, easements, and land title surveys.
- Draft and prepare legal descriptions, plats, surveys, and easements.
- Develop technical mapping and final drawings for agency submittals, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Perform field support calculations and direct field crews regarding project scope, schedules, and technical guidance.
- Communicate with contractors regarding construction staking requests and support field crews during staking activities.
- Incorporate redlines provided by the Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and efficiently produce accurate and timely drawings in CAD.
- Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for drafting and map generation, including contour maps, alignments, and staking points.
- Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and local survey and boundary laws, statutes, and regulations.
- Promote quality control measures and adhere to AWA’s QA/QC program to minimize project risks.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to interns and junior staff, fostering teamwork and professional growth.
Skills & Qualifications
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field (preferred).
Experience: 2 years of relevant experience in land surveying or related fields.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Skilled in using GPS technology, total stations, theodolites, and data collectors.
- Basic understanding of Federal and State land survey and boundary laws.
- Experience and skills in legal writing is a plus.
- Experience and skills with GIS is a plus.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze boundary issues, legal descriptions, and survey data.
Organizational Skills: Strong time management, ability to prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills, including the ability to draft legal descriptions, technical reports, and client correspondence.
Problem-Solving: Ability to work independently and resolve issues with minimal oversight.
Additional Skills:
- High attention to detail is a must.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and commitment to teamwork.
Certification & Licensure:
- Plans to obtain Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is a big plus.
- Drone pilot license and/or flight experience (preferred).

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
