Andrew P. Stewart Center is seeking a full-time Director of Community Development to oversee and manage the community development initiative in partnership with the neighborhood association and the Gideons Housing Task Force.

Andrew P. Stewart Center is a community development nonprofit organization in southwest Atlanta that exists to see our neighbors living purposeful lives in pursuit of their full potential. The organization promotes strong communities through educational enrichment, wellness resources, and housing solutions. The Center directs all of its resources in partnership with Pittsburgh residents to transform the neighborhood into a place of hope and opportunity.
Andrew P. Stewart Center is the backbone organization for the Gideons Housing Task Force (GHTF), a coalition of community groups, nonprofits, and foundations. The Task Force is focused on ensuring that all low-moderate income families with children in the Gideons enrollment zone/Pittsburgh and Adair Park will have access to the full , which promotes thriving families, neighborhood sustainability and stewardship.
Key Priorities for GHTF:
- Priority 1: Provide resources and support to legacy homeowners and renters in the neighborhood.
- Priority 2: Maintain control of land and identify new sources of funding for acquisition and development of affordable housing.
- Priority 3: Represent/advocate for neighborhood housing and education priorities.
- Priority 4: Elevate community voice and build trust.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a resilient, collaborative, results-oriented person who excels at building relationships and managing complex projects in an urban environment. The candidate also has prior knowledge and/or related experience with community development including experience facilitating cross-sector partnerships or coalitions.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage the continued development of the Gideons Housing Task Force.
- Oversee Gideons Housing Task Force projects, strategies, and performance measures.
- Advance neighborhood initiatives and projects in partnership with community members
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of community programs aligned with established goals/objectives. This includes hosting the annual Housing and Resource Fair, facilitating community resource connection, conducting community listening sessions, and supervising financial education programs.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partners.
- Support the integration of programming into the Stewart Center’s holistic service model.

A Day in the Life: A typical day of the Director of Community Development is expected to vary based on the season and/or status of projects. This position will consist of both time in the office and in the community.
- Time in the office might consist of project management. This includes preparing for quarterly GHTF meetings and regular sub-group meetings by creating agendas, securing a location, facilitating group communication, and following up with group members about shared goals/action items. The DCD will closely monitor the online neighborhood portal with updated resources, events, etc. and use a variety of methods to communicate those updates to community members.
- Time in the community might include networking at neighborhood meetings and events and connecting with neighborhood partners about resources.
What Else You Should Know:
This is an in-person, full-time position based in Atlanta. The role requires reliable transportation for community meetings. The schedule is somewhat flexible during the week but does require availability some evenings and weekends. The salary for this position is $60,000/year with access to $2,400/year of Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) benefits. Full-time employees also have access to 10 PTO days plus 19 paid holidays.
