Job Overview of Admissions Counselor
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for working closely with the Director of Admissions and covering those duties whenever the Director of Admissions is not available. The admissions counselor will conduct admissions interviews and screenings, lead campus tours, review all referrals for day and residential, with a focus on day referrals, and perform duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.This person must be personable, work effectively with families, and work collaboratively with the clinical, residential, and school departments and programs. This person must maintain strong relationships internally and with outside school districts/agencies through phone contact and/or face-to-face interaction and be able to effectively represent Andrus at meetings.
Schedule of Admissions Counselor: Generally, 9am – 5pm weekdays. Accrues 4 weeks vacation annually.
Essential Functions of Admissions Counselor:
- Review referrals including educational and clinical documentation and evaluations from partnering school districts, departments of social service and other stake holders to determine clinical and educational fit into ANDRUS’ programs
- Conduct intake interviews to assess fit for ANDRUS programs
- Coordinate admission decisions with the Assistant Director of admissions and other Campus department heads.
- Coordinate with CSE/DSS to ensure that all required documentation and information is received to ensure that the admissions process is efficient.
- Conduct tours of ANDRUS’ facilities and programming for students, their families and stakeholders
- Partner and plan with an interdisciplinary team to successfully admit children into ANDRUS’ campus programs
- Maintain and monitor ANDRUS’ census on campus to ensure program viability
- Network, market to and maintain working relationships with stakeholders.
- Serve as the AD role in admissions in their absence which means being able to perform their job responsibilities and tasks when necessary.
- Lead and implement initiatives that help improve the overall intake experience of students and their families.
- Support and coordinate students’ first day of admissions with all relevant departments (i.e. health center, residential school etc.)
- Oversee admissions deliverables and targets.
- Present & market to school districts, hospitals, school advocacy, parents and any relevant stakeholders
- Oversee and implement recruitment strategies to help build census and enrollment
Essential Qualifications of Admissions Counselor
- Master’s degree in social work or related field preferred
- Bachelor's degree required
- MSW Preferred
- Clinical background preferred
- Experience with at-risk families, including work in the field of childhood trauma, child abuse or family violence preferred
- Fluent in written and spoken Spanish preferred but not required
- Knowledge of computer systems (Word & Excel)
- Knowledge of infant and child development, psycho-social dynamics, dynamics of child abuse and neglect
- Skill in supervising staff and administrative policies and procedures
- Valid Class D driver’s license, in good standing for at least 3 years
