Controller
Job Classification: Full-time, exempt
Reports To: CEO / President
Supervises: Accounting Personnel, IT personnel.
Job Summary: Responsible for the company’s accounting practices and for preparing financial statements and other reports including the annual budget preparation and budget reviews. Responsible for coordinating proper insurance coverage. Responsible for coordinating and supervising the IT functions. Develops, implement and maintain procedures for all finance and accounting processes, which will ensure that all financial activities are carried out in compliance with GAAP. Represents the Finance Department in the fulfillment of contractual requirements. Determines, evaluates and presents financial requirements and their impact on the overall operations during corporate review of new sales orders. Ensures that all resource requirements (tooling, materials, capital equipment, etc.) are acquired in a timely manner as required to support scheduled manufacturing processes. Develop, implement, maintain and verify an organizational structure for finance and Accounting employees that will ensure a stable, motivated and efficient workforce. Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible for any additional tasks assigned from time to time by the CEO.
Essential Functions
1. Final responsibility for preparing and issuing of consolidated financial statements including:
· Works closely operations to ensure that all activity is reflected in the financial reports.
· Reviews and analyzes monthly balance sheets and profit and loss statements compared to projections.
· Coordinates the monthly closing and production of financial statements.
· Responsible for coordinating and preparing for the annual financial review/audit and the resulting annual report.
· Prepares and/or presents financial reports to the Board of Directors.
2. Assures protection of company assets through audits, internal control and proper levels of insurance.
- Responsible for comparing operational performance to budget and reporting results to management.
- Monitors establishing internal controls to assure proper compliance.
- Assists in determining and maintaining proper levels of insurance - handled by Koniag.
3. Supervises the Finance Department staff.
- Responsible for the training and development of staff in Department procedures and policies.
- Assists in reviewing and updating monthly closing procedures.
- Evaluates, develops and implements new procedures which are more proficient.
4. Projects and monitors cash flow requirements
· Monitors cash and line of credit to determine timing for deposits and withdrawals.
· Works with other managers to project and manage cash flow needs for the company.
· Supervises the execution of cash disbursements for payment of corporate expenses and collection of accounts receivable.
Additional Responsibilities
1. Participates in short and long range planning of financial and organizational requirements for the company.
2. Works with other departments in the preparation of the annual budget and its review.
3. Responsible for administrating payroll and the employee benefit package in conjunction with HR.
4. Oversees management of the computer network.
5. Coordinates distributions to shareholders.
6. Responsible for the maintenance of fixed asset records which includes assigning depreciation lives.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting required with preference given for an MBA and five years experience as a controller. Three of the five years must be in a management position.
2. Working knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques and principles, federal tax guidelines and tax laws, and ability to autonomously make decisions in all areas of company accounting.
3. Cost accounting knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment.
4. Excellent computer skills utilizing spreadsheet, word processor and accounting and database software.
5. Knowledge of Asset Based Lending preferred, but not required.
