Trout Unlimited takes care of the rivers and clean water that trout, salmon and communities around the country depend on. We are a nationwide network of advocates, outdoor-enthusiasts, volunteers, anglers and staff dedicated to protecting places where trout and salmon thrive and recovering rivers and fisheries that need help.
POSITION SUMMARY
This is an exciting opportunity to lead communications projects and campaign strategy for Trout Unlimited (TU) in Alaska, where we work to conserve some of the most important remaining salmon and trout habitat in the Pacific Northwest.
This position works closely with our talented and hardworking Alaska team, as well as our supporters and partners, to translate the shared values of river and fish lovers into meaningful conservation wins by developing and implementing communications and organizing strategies that support TU’s overall mission.
The ideal candidate is creative, self-directed and solution-oriented with a passion for conserving Alaska’s wild rivers and landscapes. They have demonstrated the ability to develop, implement and manage effective communications and advocacy strategies to achieve desired outcomes. They are an exceptional writer, savvy on multichannel media platforms (both traditional and social) and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. They thrive in a fast-paced environment with hard working colleagues and partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to, and play a leadership role in, a high-functioning, interdisciplinary team.
- Develop and implement a multimedia communications and advocacy strategy for conservation campaigns and initiatives to maximize public engagement and media coverage to achieve our objectives.
- Manage communications to ensure an accurate, compelling, clear and consistent voice across communications products and channels including newsletters, press releases, feature and opinion articles, fact sheets, fundraising appeals, and content for website and social media.
- Assist TU staff with advocacy and communications strategy, writing and editing, fundraising, and analysis of political opportunities.
- Use a CRM system to track data and apply communications metrics to measure and maximize the effectiveness of strategies and tactics.
- Compellingly communicate TU’s conservation impact to target audiences, including anglers, advocates and funders. Develop and steward a network of media contacts.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is preferably based in Alaska and will report directly to the Alaska Program Director.

This is a full-time position with a generous benefits package. The approximate salary range is $60,000 – $78,000 depending on experience.
