Job Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated Analytical Chemistry Lab Technician to support our global breeding groups in driving barley variety improvement for our malting and brewing customers. This role is essential in providing accurate data and insights that contribute to our innovative processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Malting and Analysis: Perform malting and analyze breeding trials from global breeding programs and industry evaluation trials.
- Data Monitoring: Identify outliers and trends in data, facilitating root cause analysis to ensure data integrity.
- Equipment Management: Monitor laboratory equipment for in-process issues, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory processes and equipment.
- Reagent Preparation: Prepare laboratory reagents and materials for analysis, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standardized recipes.
- Inventory Management: Maintain sample and data integrity, manage inventories, and order supplies as needed.
- Training and Supervision: Supervise and train new and temporary employees to ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
- Warehouse Management: Utilize forklift to manage warehouse inventories effectively.
- Cleaning Protocols: Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning protocols to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
- Process Improvement: Drive innovation by developing and testing new methods for chemical analysis and improving existing processes.
- Documentation: Review, update, and create SOPs and other management documents.
- Statistical Analysis: Apply basic statistical knowledge to facilitate data analysis and drive innovation.
- Proficient in data entry with strong experience in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with laboratory scales and pipetting techniques.
- Experience with SAP, Outlook, and R is a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Licensing: Must hold an active driver’s license.
- Additional Skills: Experience with system controls, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing troubleshooting is a plus. GC experience is desirable.
- Environment: Work will be conducted in laboratory spaces, warehouses, and field settings.
- Safety: Hearing and eye protection are required in designated areas. Additional PPE is necessary due to chemical hazards.
- Climate: Not all work areas are air-conditioned.
- Schedule: Occasional work on nights, weekends, or holidays may be required, along with occasional travel.
