Veterinary Technician Assistants are the vital force in any veterinary hospital. They do many daily tasks, such as feeding, walking, and assisting the techs and doctors with treatments for all the patients who are seen here at Animal Clinic of Milford. Other routine duties may include general upkeep of the hospital, cleaning cages, or providing care before and after many medical procedures.
Various duties and skills of Veterinary Assistants:
- Report on time for your scheduled shift.
- Must love dogs and cats...and people too!
- Monitor and care for animals before and after procedures alongside a doctor assigned to that patient.
- Understands and performs safe, humane patient restraint to maintain the safety of oneself, one’s colleagues, and the patients.
- Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and the treatment area.
- Assist with admits and discharging of patients.
- Moving animals and hold or restrain them during testing and other procedures.
- Help provide emergency first aid to sick or injured animals.
- Do routine tests, such as assisting in radiology and laboratory services.
- Feed, walk, and bathe animals.
- A devoted team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
- Remain calm in a busy environment.
- Collect samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for testing.
- Able to lift over 50lbs with the assistance of another staff member.
Veterinary assistants must show emotional strength, stability, and maturity in cases where they must treat abused animals or euthanize those who cannot be returned to a reasonable quality of life. Our hospital is a fast-paced environment, and all technician assistants must adhere to the high demand.
Veterinary assistants work full or part time, and often have the option of flexible hours. Those who work in ever evolving facility like Animal Clinic of Milford may be required to work weekends.
