Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Barn and Kennel Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care, horse and/or donkey experience and comfortable around all dogs. Must be committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for sanctuary and pets. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in the daily operations of our facility, ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including for Donkeys and horse: feeding, medicating and mucking stalls. For dogs: exercising, training per instruction, people time and town social trips.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in paddocks, kennels, play areas, and common spaces.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to management.
- Support veterinary staff as needed, including assisting with basic medical procedures or treatments.
- Participate in training sessions for dogs as required, promoting positive behavior and socialization.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed to protect both animals and staff.
- Sundays are required
Qualifications
- Previous experience in farm animal handling or care is preferred.
- Familiarity with veterinary practices or experience as a veterinary assistant or technician is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with other team members.
- Knowledge of dog training techniques or pet grooming is advantageous.
- Ability to work on your own and be able to do well under pressure.
- Must be physically capable of lifting and handling animals of various sizes.
- A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their welfare is essential.

Pay: $17.61 - $18.20 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 20 per week
