Animal Friends Humane Society (AFHS) was established in 1952 and is Butler Countys largest, oldest non-profit animal shelter. Our mission is to promote humane principles, to protect lost, homeless, abandoned, and mistreated animals, and to act as advocates for animals in our communities. In 2009, AFHS relocated from its outdated facility in Trenton and now occupies a 22,500 sq. foot facility with top-notch amenities for its shelter population in Hamilton, Ohio. This volunteer position will assist the leadership team in its efforts to promote available animals, adoption and fundraising campaigns and build awareness of Animal Friends Humane Society.
Responsibilities :
- The Cat Care Coordinator (CCC) is responsible for overseeing the daily care and safe placement of all cats at Animal Friends Humane Society. This includes the Cat Volunteer Programs, Cat Foster Program, Cat Rescue Transfer Program, and Cat Adoption program, as well as general outreach response as it pertains to cats. The Cat Care Coordinator represents AFHS in a professional manner and supports the mission of AFHS.
- Managing intakes for cats which includes making sure all cats have proper vaccinations, pictures & pet data is updated in Pet Point
- Maintaining cats at offsite adoption locations including PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus and ensuring volunteers are scheduled at each location at least once per day to give proper care to all cats.
- Ensuring all offsite adoption locations always have cats available for adoption.
- Implementing cleaning protocols for each offsite adoption location and completing weekly checks to ensure cleanliness standards are achieved.
- Ensuring up-to-date vaccine paperwork is available for each cat at all offsite adoption locations.
- Overseeing the barn cat program when we have barn cats.
- Assisting in all adoption events for cats
- Maintaining and enhancing foster communication to keep participants engaged in the program
- Ensuring all cats are getting proper medication and medical treatment to prepare them for foster and ultimately adoption
- Work alongside Kennel Staff to verify they know how to care for the cats properly
- Interact with and get to know all cats in AFHS care to recommend appropriate flow through the shelter system, as well as make appropriate matches with fosters and rescues.
- Perform minor medical tasks such as gross physical examination, sub-Q vaccinations, microchip implantation, oral dewormer, and blood draw.
- Work to grow the Cat Foster Program by recruiting and training cat foster volunteers
- Screen prospective foster homes, making sure to match cats with appropriate volunteer foster homes based on medical / behavioral need
- Verify all cats have received appropriate medical care prior to placing with a foster home
- Provide counseling, education, behavior, and medical support for fosters before and after fostering as needed and requested.
- Maintain proper paperwork on each fostered animal and schedule appointments as needed
- Train new fosters to bottle feed Cat Rescue Program :
- Contact, evaluate, and approve Rescue groups for partnership with Animal Friends Humane Society
- Maintain good relationships and communication with rescue partners Administrative :
- Execute daily tasks such as email, telephone response, and making sure all cats are up to date with pictures and accurate medical summaries in Pet Point. Ensuring all cats have an accurate description of them online.
- Maintain appropriate Cat Care data. Activities include maintaining an accurate list of Cat Foster and Rescue groups, monitoring data to identify Cat Care priorities, creating reports and sharing program data with relevant departments and organizations, work in cooperation with the AFHS Executive Director to collect data and needed information for grant purposes.
- Euthanasia Certified Assisting with euthanasia when needed and helping with paid euthanasia and set up for viewings with grieving families
- Create engaging content for website, social media channels, and other digital materials as needed
- Assist with AFHS website updates and maintenance
- Assist in the promotion of AFHS events
- Contribute to communications and social media strategies
- Interact with staff and volunteers in an efficient and courteous manner to ensure a cooperative team environment amongst all departments
- Contribute to the updating of photographs and profiles of animals on our website with the most up-to-date information via PetPoint, Petfinder, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership team
