The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a Full-Time Director of Human Resources The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in building and managing an HR department, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and leadership across the team. They will also have a passion for people and a proven track record of driving HR initiatives in a fast-paced environment This position has direct reports responsible for key HR functions such as recruitment and employee relations.
This position is part of the staff leadership team, consisting of eight Directors, and will work closely with and support the CEO, ARL Operations, and other Directors in a collaborative team environment. This is an onsite position located at either our Main Office or Innovation Center in Des Moines, with occasional opportunities for remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures in compliance with with legal requirements, organizational goals, and HR best practices.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and EEOC standards.
- Administer payroll and benefits for a diverse team of over 100 employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Design and implement training and development programs that support employee growth, enhance skills, and contribute to the organization's overall objectives.
- Oversee recruitment and talent management process, including workforce planning, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Foster a positive workplace culture by proactively addressing employee concerns. Lead conflict resolution, mediate disputes.
- Lead performance management processes to align employee performance with organization goals. Provide tools and guidance for managers to conduct effective reviews, set goals and foster development.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the organization by championing policies and programs that embrace diverse perspectives and foster an inclusive culture.
- Collaborate with ARL's Leadership Director Team to provide HR insights, solutions, and strategic direction, ensuring alignment between human capital strategies and organizational goals.
- Cultivate and maintain internal and external relationships, building strong partners with employees, leadership, and external stakeholders to support the organization's mission and drive collaborative efforts.
