Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and reliable Personal Care Assistant for my 51-year-old sister, who has Down Syndrome and early-onset Alzheimer's. The ideal candidate will blend seamlessly into our home, serving as an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands to ensure her comfort, safety, and quality of life.
Responsibilities include
- Providing gentle supervision and companionship
- Assisting with daily activities as needed (e.g. meals, personal care, engagement)
- Maintaining a calm, relaxed environment. This is our house, her home - not a group home or residential facility.
- Respecting personal space and our home's routine
- Assist clients with personal care tasks including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in meaningful activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Support clients with mobility needs, including lifting and transferring when necessary.
- Help with meal preparation and ensure proper nutrition for clients.
- Administer medication as prescribed and monitor health conditions.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Document daily activities, changes in client condition, and any concerns to report to healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with family members and healthcare teams to develop personalized care plans.
The right person will be attentive yet unobtrusive, prioritizing my sister's needs while allowing her as much independence as possible. Experience with dementia or developmental disabilities is a plus.
Additional considerations:
- Must be comfortable around animals - we have a multitude of pets in our home.,
- Paid bi-weekly through Acumen
- Must complete an application and undergo a background check
- Our home is located off Highland between Kenilworth and Lee
- Looking for multiple workers with flexible hours. Weekdays starting time could be as early as 7-9am and ending between 2-4. Also, some evening and weekend hours available.
The ideal candidate will have experience in caregiving, particularly in home care settings. This role is crucial in enhancing my sister's quality of life by ensuring her comfort, safety, and well-being.
Requirements
- Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of systems related to personal care homes or assisted living environments.
- Familiarity with working with individuals who have developmental disabilities is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with family.
- Physical capability to lift and assist clients as needed.
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
