Position Title: Foster and Volunteer Coordinator
Schedule: Tuesday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm)/Saturday (8:00am - 4:00pm)
Supervisor: Shelter Manager Position
Summary: Review foster, volunteer, and adoption applications and counsel interested individuals to find the right match for their interests. Mustbe dedicated to Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society's mission and thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment.
Required Skills: Experience and interest in working with animals and people.Skills in database management, organization and communication are necessary. Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of animal care and behavior are essential. Must be able to read and understand medical records. A high school diploma or GED are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities as Foster and Volunteer Coordinator:
- Take proactive steps to ensure optimum coverage of volunteers for the organization’s needs.
- Identify and schedule volunteers to fulfill weekly program needs, special projects, and special events.
- Match volunteers with opportunities that suit their skills and interests and serve the organization. Interview, assess, and assign new volunteers.
- Manage volunteer training, including orientation. Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions. Orient volunteers and increase their understanding of services and roles and responsibilities of volunteers.
- Serve as the primary contact for existing and potential fosters and volunteers.
- Provide guidance, support, resources, and tools to maximize volunteer retention.
- Create volunteer program materials (SOPs, applications, agreements, job descriptions, orientations, trainings, newsletters, etc.).
- Maintain accurate and timely volunteer records; manage a volunteer database; track and report volunteer statistics (monthly).
- Prepare monthly and annual reports on the contribution of the volunteer program to the organization.
- Prepare monthly emails to fosters and volunteers to keep them informed about events, programs, and general needs.
- Work collaboratively with co-workers to maximize use of website and social networks for volunteer/foster recruitment and promotion of volunteer activities and events.
- Follow up conversations with people fostering to see how the animal is doing in the new home.
- Manage front desk and answer phones/email and assist with all inquiries.
- Ensure animals leaving the ASSHS have found a safe, appropriate match for their needs.
- Develop expertise in PetPoint database and ensure all records are current and up-to-date.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, volunteers, and visitors.
- Promote ASSHS in a positive way.
- Carry out other special projects and assignments as needed.
- Ability to learn and navigate technology.
- A clean driver’s license is required for this position.
- Occasional flexibility in hours worked.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 39.5 per week
