- Must hold a valid school administrator certificate or be enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school administrator not later than six months after beginning employment as required by Michigan Department of Education.

- Direct and coordinate all activities of the Department of Athletics under the supervision of the building principal.
- Serve as advisor to the principal on athletic matters.
- Approve all athletic contests before they are contracted.
- Prepare the athletic budget and present it for adoption.
- Administer the athletic budget under the supervision of the building principal.
- Evaluate instructional and non-instructional staff and make appropriate recommendations.
- Provide assistance to teachers in planning, classroom management, student evaluation and the delivery of the instructional process.
- Assist in creating a positive school climate that is conducive to teaching and learning.
- Secure bids and purchase equipment for all sports.
- Be responsible for equipment and inventories for all sports.
- Ascertain that rules and regulations of the school district, the Michigan High School Athletic Association, and the various conference organizations that the school is affiliated with are strictly upheld and enforced in spirit and in fact.
- Serve as the first level problem solver/arbitrator in disputes between coaches and athletes and coaches and parents.
- Coordinate staff and student recognition programs in athletics.
- Serve on school and district-wide committees and represent the school as otherwise may be directed.
- Coordinate and schedule athletic facility usage for practices and contests for all teams with building administration.
- Recruit, interview, and recommend for hire all candidates for coaching positions.
- Evaluate all head coaches under her/his span of control on an annual basis. The evaluation is to be in written form and submitted to the building principal within three weeks after the end of each sport season.
- Promote good public relations with the public, news media, opponent schools, and community organizations.
- Coordinate all booster club activities.
- Serve as coordinator for athletic team transportation.
- Secure necessary medical and dental assistance for medical examinations.
- Arrange for the care and reconditioning of athletic equipment and facilities.
- Obtain and employ officials and personnel for contests (police, game officials, timers, scorers, ticket sellers and takers, etc.)
- Check readiness of facilities for teams and crowd prior to game time.
- This is a full time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
