    Position Title: Supervisor / Group Leader, AAPS Before/After School Program

    Location: Multiple Locations Available

    FTE: 11.5 - 27.25 Hours / Week

    Wage Scale: $17.50 - $19.55/hour

    Reports to: Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed) / Before/After School Program Administrative Team
    Summary
    AAPS Community Education and Recreation's Extended Day Program offers safe, fun, and enriching environments for Young 5 - 5th grade students during the before and after school hours. The Site Supervisor / Group Leader has overall responsibility for one school-based before/after school program site.
    Schedule
    Morning shift hours are 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. Afternoon shift hours are 3:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Site Supervisors work at least 5 shifts per week.

    Job Requirements
    • 21 years of age or older
    • Has experience working with children in a professional capacity
    • Has familiarity with and understanding of child development through age 12
    • Is flexible and tolerant, exhibiting warmth and caring respect for children
    • Meets any ONE of the following qualifications:
      • Has Associate’s degree in child related field with 480 hours of experience
      • Has Montessori credential with 12 semester hours in a child related field with 480 hours of experience
      • Has Michigan School-Age credential with 12 semester hours in a child related field with 480 hours of experience
      • Has Child Development Associate credential with 12 semester hours in a child related field with 480 hours of experience
      • Has 60 semester hours with 12 semester hours in a child related field with 720 hours of experience
      • Has High School Diploma or GED with 6 semester hours in a child related field with 2880 hours (approximately one year, full time) of experience
    • Within 3 months of hire, complete trainings in
      • Child and adult CPR (certification)
      • Child and adult First Aid (certification)
    • Basic computer skills, such as experience using email
    • Submit negative TB test result prior to the start of employment
    • Maintain compliance with all Michigan Bureau of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) licensing requirements
    Job Responsibilities
    • Establish and carry out the necessary procedures to ensure each child’s physical safety and comfort
    • Prepare and implement developmentally-appropriate activities
    • Interact with students throughout the program by supporting students' social-emotional well-being through choices, enrichment, and fun
    • Ensure that each child and all areas of the center are adequately supervised at all times, and be aware of what is happening in other areas. Assign assistant(s) as needed to accomplish same
    • Supports before/after care assistants in developing and improving childcare skills
    • Keep parent bulletin board updated
    • Interact with each parent/guardian daily to relay information about his or her child’s time in the program
    • Take/enter/submit attendance for each session, follow up on missing children, keep head counts
    • Initiate and oversee weekly site planning meetings with team
    • Advise the Administrative Team of problems, needs and adjustments regarding the program, staff, and/or children and their families. Provide feedback to the Administrative Team about assistants’ job performance as needed
    • Respond to Administrative Team requests in a timely manner
    • Ensure emergency forms are on file for each child. Review and be aware of special circumstances, including health concerns, food allergy plans, custody issues, etc.
    • Maintain compliance with all LARA rules and regulations
    • Adhere to district policies and procedures as well as those outlined in the licensed Before/After School Program Handbook
    • Provide coverage at additional sites as requested by the adminstrative team
    • Other duties as assigned
    This is a part-time position requiring regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    Language Skills
    • Read, write, and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
    • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators
    • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing

    Mathematical Skills
    • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals

    Reasoning Ability
    • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form
    • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

    Other Skills & Abilities
    • Apply knowledge of current child development research and techniques related to sensory issues
    • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
    • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
