The Manager Business Functions will operate within the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Lurie Children's Hospital and will primarily be responsible for managing daily business operations including budget development, enhancing billing/coping opportunities, ensuring correct revenue flow, stewarding financial allocations, and supporting faculty recruitment. Works with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians and other non-physician providers and support staff to maintain an environment that is responsive to patient needs, encourages customer service, and promotes employee satisfaction. Plays a critical role as a liaison across areas and clusters including Revenue Cycle, Foundation, and division leaders. Actively supports the hospital’s Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service goals, adhering to all hospital policy and procedures, individually and as an effective team member. Works closely with Administrator on cluster-wide planning, fiscal management, managed care contracting and provider credentialing issues. Prepares and analyzes financial and statistical information to aid in decision making.
- Maintains a work environment that promotes proactive identification of potential problems and addressing them.
- Manages philanthropic portfolio and stewardship of accounts and annual reporting.
- Develops, implements and monitors the effectiveness of the operational procedures related to business functions.
- Is responsible for communicating business functions to the department as needed.
- Leads business functions in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Manages day-to-day operation of business office. Coordinates with team to provide timely and quality service related to central business functions (i.e., billing, release of medical record information, collection of payments, charge and payment, revenue flow, billing coordination for both hospital and practice plan, patient related issues).
- In collaboration with Administrator and other cluster team leaders, develops or revises department productivity standards for staff and works with staff to achieve and exceed goals.
- Serves as coordinator for the Hospital’s EPIC Cadence Scheduling and HBOC Registration systems.
- Reviews and monitors system reports relating to business office’s activities; coordinates completion of statistical or summary reports required by Administrator to evaluate business office operations. Ensures that audits of data entry are randomly conducted.
- Actively supports organizational change initiatives and drives the CQI process
- Utilizes a team approach to develop collaborative relationships within area of responsibility and across teams to ensure compatibility of goals and objectives.
- Actively develops and supports liaison relationships with other teams.
- Promotes the development of customer service model as defined by hospital and cluster.
- Ensures the quality service is provided to all customers (i.e., patients, families, co-workers, outside agencies).
- Handles financial and managed care requests
- Collaborates with the Administrator to creatively develop, implement and monitor a fiscally sound budget for capital and operational resources for specific areas.
- Develops methods to analyze and collect data to track revenue, cost analysis, productivity and patient billing and reimbursement activity.
- Approves payroll and cluster expenditures.
- Analyzes current data and makes recommendations regarding updates and revisions to fee schedules, procedural code analysis and descriptions in hospital’s master charge file system.
- Educates and updates clinical and business office staff on appropriate service coding, billing and managed care issues.
- Collaborates with administrator and appropriate parties on managed care contract and negotiation activity for both practice plan and hospital.
- Coordinates and monitors provider credentialing activity for enrolling both physician practice plan and non-physician providers.
- Assists Administrator in maintaining updated carrier and provider participant information for all current and pending managed care contracts.
- Serves as liaison with Administrator, to managed care companies, the practice plan, and hospital billing entities regarding payment, denial and follow up issues related to reimbursements for services.
- Facilitates timely communication between leadership
- Participates in appropriate committees.
- Promotes active communication among teams, developing methods for consistent integration.
- Facilitates communication and collaboration of the multi-disciplinary teams.
- Keeps informed of changes occurring within the hospital and disseminates information accordingly.
- Collaboratively works with all Psychiatry teams to advance best business practice and customer service.
- Serves as a resource person and role model
- Resource person for the team, works to develop and coordinates systems within the cluster.
- Actively facilitates problem identification, avoidance and resolution.
- Serves as patient care advocate.
- Orients new staff and trainees to cluster business practices, policies and procedures.
- Manages variance to daily operations
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
- Other job functions as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational courses and leadership experience in a physician group practice or hospital environment, master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
- Exposure in working with third party payors and social service agencies highly desirable.
- Excellent leadership skills, ability to work with teams, excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, analytical ability, understanding of financial budgets and reports, knowledge of hospital information system and ability to translate concepts into actions.

Pay Range
$70,720.00-$115,627.20 Salary
