What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Specialist position at Ann Storck Center?
The Recreation Specialist assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of recreational and leisure activities and programs for participants and coordinating community activities and volunteer projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists in the development, organization, and delivery of leisure and recreational programs and activities that offer meaningful engagement opportunities for participants year-round.
- Assists in planning and organizing ADT special events, helps with decorating activity areas, and maintains the organization of supplies
- Acts as a lead training member in the ADT and functions as a role model for others.
- Maintains a general knowledge of each participant’s preferences and abilities, encourages participation, and adapts activities to accommodate varying levels of physical and cognitive function.
- Collaboration and Communication with nursing and support staff to tailor programs to individual participant needs.
- Acts as the liaison between DTIs and direct care staff.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED certification
- Education or experience in recreation or a related field required
- Ability to create and lead leisure programs and activities
- Knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities and three (3) years of experience providing direct care to intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individual
- Demonstrated leadership aptitude / or previous supervisory experience
- Valid FL Driver’s license with good driving record for the last 3 years
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace)
