Position Description
This posting will be used to fill a Full-Time, Permanent , Sign Fabrication Supervisor positions within the Department of Public Works for Anne Arundel County Government.
It is supervisory and skilled work in the production and installation of traffic signs and markers.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves supervising and managing the operations and employees of the Sign Fabrication Shop which provides services to Anne Arundel County government agencies. Work includes managing the production, installation, and maintenance of signs. Work includes fabricating signs by silk screening and overlaying techniques, assigning work to subordinates, and ordering and maintaining necessary supplies and materials. Supervision is exercised over a small-sized staff of sign fabricators and installers. Work is performed with considerable independence within established policies, procedures, and technical guidelines, and is reviewed by a superior through conferences and reports.
Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Plans, assigns, and supervises the activities of the sign fabrication shop including ordering and maintaining supplies and materials.
Supervises the work of a small-sized staff in the production of traffic signs and markers, using current technology, machinery, and techniques.
Provides staff training and performance feedback on an ongoing basis. Officially evaluates the work of employees via performance evaluations.
Reviews work orders to ensure specificity, i.e., where work is to be completed, specific tasks to be undertaken, and timelines, to ensure efficiency.
Establishes and manages work schedules and assignments; monitors production to ensure all specifications and requirements are met.
Collaborates with senior management, staff, and external customers to provide consultation, influence decisions, and resolve issues.
Prepares work orders for and supervises the installation and maintenance of signs as required and reviews completed work orders.
Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports including computerized sign inventory and development of budget recommendations.
Performs related work as required.
POSITIONS IN THIS CLASS OF WORK ARE REQUIRED TO LIFT, OR CAUSE TO BE LIFTED, TOOLS, MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT WEIGHING UP TO 1,500 POUNDS.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the production of signage and traffic control devices and of hazards and precautionary measures associated with the work.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the installation of signs, and of hazards and precautionary measures of work.
Considerable knowledge of the methods of preparing and maintaining inventory and production records.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of sign fabrication employees to meet production requirements.
Ability to interpret and instruct subordinates in the use of rough layouts, standard drawings, and specifications.
Ability to maintain adequate inventory and fabrication records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and other employees, effectively communicate verbally and in writing to express problems and solutions to reporting managers and teams.
Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school; four (4) or more years experience in the production of signs by silk screening and overlaying techniques, including one (1) or more years of supervisory experience; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE: The four (4) or more years of experience in the production of signs by silk screening and overlaying techniques may be substituted with four (4) or more years of experience in the production of signs using large format printers, plotting, weeding, installing vinyl and digital graphics.
