WORK DAYS: 9 months (182 Days)
SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher Aide
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
FUNDING: This position for the 2024-2025 school year is funded by a grant
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To assist teachers in classroom activities with English Learner (EL) students. Duties and responsibilities include providing instructional assistance and support services to teachers, students, and/or staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Possess basic English and Mathematics skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned areas of responsibility.
- Ability to perform clerical tasks.
- Ability to plan and organize.
- Knowledge of operation of office and audio-visual equipment
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and ability to be flexible.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge and understanding of the school system's rules and policies, administrative procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keep inventory and order clerical supplies and tools for instructional assistance as prompted.
- Prepare materials requested by classroom teachers; design and bind books as requested; prepare graphs and charts and any other materials as requested
- Monitor students
- Provide individual instruction to students who need assistance; assists students with group activities and provide small group instruction
- Monitor seat work and workbook assignments; assists students with make-up work
- Escort students to and from lunch; monitor students in the cafeteria and hallways maintaining appropriate noise levels
- Report discipline problems to teacher or appropriate staff
- Follow all district guidelines
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Principal and/or Lead Teacher may assign consistent with the goals and objectives of this position
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or adequate coursework in child development as approved by the AL State Dept of Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful experience working with children
- Two (2) years of college experience preferred
- If assigned to a Title I school, must meet the requirements for the No Child Left Behind Act
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity are required to perform job responsibilities. Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with evaluation procedures and Board policy.
