Position Description
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) has an exciting opportunity for a professional and positive individual to serve our community as a Supervisor, Accounting. In this role, you will oversee a team responsible for the ACSO accounting function. This position is responsible for various accounting and budget functions to include ledger maintenance, revenue and asset accounting, as well as associated analysis and reporting. - Standard hiring rate: $85,412.22 to $102,490.25 ($41.06 to $49.27 per hour). Exempt
- 2023 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 36: $85,412.22 to $119,568 ($41.06 to $57.48 per hour).

Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate the development of the annual budget including setting timelines, providing direction, developing necessary documentation and presentation materials to facilitate the budgeting process.
- Make budget recommendations to the Sheriff and their leadership team based on data analysis and changes to state and county policies.
- Develop and refine tools to monitor revenues and expenditures of the departments compared to budget.
- Develop and distribute fiscal reports.
- Provide continuous monitoring, analysis and evaluation of all fiscal activities and make recommendations based on findings.
- Complete specialized projects as assigned at the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
- Mitigate risk through audit procedures.
- Confirm accuracy of internal and external financial statements and reports.
- Interpret accounts and records to senior leadership.
- Evaluate and make improvements to accounting processes while ensuring that practices comply with organization accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Evaluate Office budget and costs associated with the accounting function.
- Confirm accuracy of internal and external financial statements and reports. Mitigate risk through review and validation.
- Interpret accounts and reports to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Leadership Team.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and work direction and managing activities of the accounting team.
Required Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of job-related experience
- In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
AND
- Must be able to testify credibly in a court of law.
- Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must also abide by all local, state, and federal laws.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field
- Previous leadership experience
- Possess a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) or a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities needed:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge
- Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies and practices
- Ability to analyze complex budgets and financial reports
- Ability to convert data into spreadsheets accurately
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
