Provides a safe, comfortable operating environment by directing installation, maintenance and repair of machines, tools, equipment and utility systems.
Ensures that productivity, quality and safety are everyday practice
Identifies current and future maintenance requirements by establishing lines of communication with management, production personnel, tradesmen, technicians and other persons in a position to understand maintenance requirements.
Monitors machines and mechanical equipment to ensure operating at maximum efficiency. Diagnoses any source of trouble and ensures that repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Achieves financial objectives by preparing annual maintenance expenditures, analysing variances and initiating corrective action.
Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment.
Supports product development and improvement by reviewing new product plans, equipment needs and modifications with R&D, coordinating activities with technicians, and assembling workers or modifying machines, tools and equipment.
Provides heat, electrical power, gas, and air by directing installation, modification and maintenance activities on utility systems.
Designs, implements and modifies preventive maintenance programs by reviewing production, QA and maintenance reports and statistics. Inspects operating machines, equipment and systems for conformance with operational standards.
Directs maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
Resolves maintenance problems by conferring with management, production and QA personnel.
Develops practices and procedures to follow in order to prevent equipment breakdowns and monitors adherence to such practices and procedures. Performs preventative maintenance duties on an ongoing basis.
Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Maintains maintenance staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees.
Maintains maintenance staff job results by coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees : planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Produces monthly reports to management detailing condition of equipment.
To ensure adequate resources are available to achieve food safety and quality objectives and to support the development, implementation and maintenance and ongoing improvement of the SQF system.

High School / equivalent; Five years of mechanical and electrical experience in the food industry and some knowledge of USDA and OSHA regulations.
College degree preferred
Excellent leadership, communications and team building skills.
Computer literate with proficiency in spreadsheet and word application
Ability to develop business partners with vendors
Experience working in a union environment and knowledge of union contract administration
To be able to communicate, make logical decisions and travel around the facility.
Structured thinking
Good communications skills, hard working, dependable, safety conscious and bilingual, English / Spanish preferred.
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Work standing or walking for long periods of time.
Work bending and squatting.
Work making fast and repetitive hand motions.
Work in cold refrigerated and frozen conditions.
And able to push / pull heavy loads using hand operated lift trucks.
